Volunteer rebolters across the country have been busy in 2026, and demand for replacement hardware continues to grow.

So far this year, the ASCA has supplied:

• 3,302 mechanical bolts - up 74% over 2025
• 3,475 glue-in bolts ↑ 75%
• 401 tubes of adhesive ↑ 37%
• 3,055 lower-offs ↑ 9%
• 965 ring anchors ↑ 186%

Across these categories, we have distributed 53% more hardware and supplies than this time last year.

Behind every one of these numbers are volunteers hiking gear into crags, spending long days on ropes, removing aging hardware, and installing replacements for the climbers who come after us.

Since 1998, the ASCA has provided 92,720 bolts, 20,315 ring anchors, and 31,079 lower-offs to support this work.

Every bolt represents a collaboration between the climbers who support the ASCA, the volunteers doing the work, and the land managers who help make it possible.

Thank you for helping keep our crags safe. ❤️

Have you been to The Ovens in this summer or fall? It is Red Lodge's most beginner friendly crag with a short approach, a variety of 5.5 to 5.10 routes, amazing views, good belays, and top access to most routes! 🧗

This summer, with hardware donated from the @asca_bolt_replacement, we were able to equip almost every route with mussy hooks! In addition we replaced some aging anchors and added a few glue ins to one of the more runout routes. 🙌

To help support the SMCC's mission and to stay up to date via our monthly newsletter you should become a member! We are proud to say that we now offer joint membership with the @accessfund! Become a member today at the link on our website below...

Look forward to seeing everyone out there sending their projects as the autumn leaves change! 🍂

We're excited to announce a new tool for the climbing community: the ASCA Rebolting Log and Map.

For years, we've wanted a efficient way to report and share details of rebolting projects with climbers, but its been hard to make it work in a way that is easy for rebolters to log and does not take a ton of admin time to share.

The ASCA Rebolting Log allows rebolters to quickly and easily record completed hardware replacement and upgrade work, creating a growing nationwide database of stewardship projects.

If you've recently completed a rebolting project using ASCA hardware, please take a few minutes to log your work. And if you've got a history of completed projects, we'd love for you to add those as well.

The database will become more useful as more rebolters contribute and backfill work that has been done. We're excited to finally have a simple to use but comprehensive way to document the enormous amount of volunteer work happening across the country - and to have an easy way to share that information with the climbing community.

Last Monday @thedurangoclimberscoalition did a hardware upgrade at our local beloved Golf Wall.

@asca_bolt_replacement also supported the event with stainless steel bolts and other hardware.

City of Rocks, Idaho. A place loved by many, and especially cherished by climbers.

Over the years, the ASCA has supplied around 700 anchors and lower offs, along with more than 1100 bolts for replacement and maintenance efforts at the City of Rocks.

Many volunteers have contributed to maintaining the climbing resources, in particular the prolific @dbing621 has been a constant force over the years.

Recent active volunteers @boardjumpz @aziggy32_ and @camdonkay have been getting lots of work done in collaboration with the park.

A big thank you to @cityofrocksnps for working with volunteers to issue rebolting permits, this work is critical for climber safety.

With fixed hardware dating back many decades, bolt replacement plays an important role in maintaining climbing resources.

On many routes, dedicated lower-off anchors replace a variety of old anchor systems, simplify descents, reduce the need for climbers to open their systems at the top of routes, and make climbing safer and more efficient for everyone.

The City has a big variety of pitch lengths, along with many multi pitch routes - not all pitches will be appropriate for lower off hardware here.

Always close your system with a knot at the end of your rope, many pitches at the City require an 80 meter to get down!

COMMENT DEADLINE TOMORROW Aug 14

There are just a couple of days left to submit comments on the NPS, BLM, and Fish & Wildlife Service proposals that will shape how fixed climbing anchors are managed in wilderness.

We created a guide to help climbers write substantive, personalized comments on these draft policies for all three agencies.

If you haven't submitted comments yet, there's still time. Our guide highlights the key issues affecting climbers - including the long-term ability to maintain and replace aging fixed anchors and responsibly establish new routes - and provides suggestions for areas where the agencies need additional clarity.

The comment deadline for all three proposals is August 14 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of climbers across the country - and matching pledges from the Angelo Family Foundation and the Lightner Sams Foundation of Wyoming - we reached our 2026 goal of raising $60,000 for the Lower Off Initiative in July!

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who donated, shared the campaign, and helped us reach this goal. This work is powered by the climbing community, and your support allows us to put high-quality hardware directly into the hands of route stewards maintaining the cliffs we all rely on.

And that support is already making an impact. So far in 2026, we’ve shipped 2500 lower offs to crags across the country. Since we began supplying this style of anchor, we’ve provided more than 30,000 lower offs - helping make lowering safer and more straightforward for climbers at cragging areas nationwide.

Thank you for investing in the long-term safety and stewardship of the places we climb.

Final Stretch To Meet The Match!

We're less than $3,000 from reaching our matching goal and fully funding the 2026 Lower Off Initiative!

Thanks to a generous matching challenge from the Angelo Family Foundation and the Lightner Sams Foundation of Wyoming, every donation made by Friday, July 31 will be doubled until we reach the $30,000 match.

Every gift makes an impact. The majority of our support comes from individual climbers like you who believe in safe, modern anchors and reliable hardware at the crags they love.

If you're able, please consider making a donation today.

📚Listen up kids! Prepare for a master class on rebolting. This is a long video but absolutely worth watching to get educated on the rebolting process by some of the leading rebolters in the US. I recorded this during the glue-in session at the Future of Fixed Anchors Symposium in Salt Lake City last weekend and I’m so glad I did! Alex & Eric, with the Salt Lake Climbers Alliance (@saltlakeclimbers), had so much knowledge to share and Nate Liles & Greg Barnes (@asca_bolt_replacement) added important detail at the end. #boltreplacement #climbingbolts #climbinghardware by @asca_bolt_replacement
