I get that most people think personal brand strategy is just “what to post” and so they either wing it, copy what they see or ask ChatGPT and call it a day. But what I do goes deeper is different and it will help you see yourself, your medium and your POV in a new way. It’s about why you create, how you’re seen and what makes your work feel true across every medium and platform. In this post, I’m breaking down what personal brand strategy can look like for different creative careers so you can stop guessing, start aligning and work with me 🤓🧠💡 → Swipe through to see yours and let me know which creative career you’d like to see me cover next time! #brandstrategy #personalbrand #creativebusiness #creativesofinstagram by @ashiaamave
the first time I opened figma, I clicked around, sighed and left. Now, I can create amazing brand identities like this! As a brand strategist, I love love ideating and conceptualizing and building worlds based on human behavior and disrupting status quos, but it was getting to a point that I had to start putting actual work behind my grand ideas. I have become an absolute savant at Canva, but my professional peers weren’t using that and so my skills gap reached its cap. And in entered @ilovecreatives! In this graphic design course, they taught us all the usual suspects of design including figma, photoshop and illustrator and it was so much fun and wayy easier than whatever I would have tried to teach myself via youtube. @punodostres has the best personality to teach something to an absolute beginner and the TA’s are there to add that flair of challenge for those who need it. I abs recommend the course to anyone who’s looking to deepen their design skills and build out a portfolio of their ideas. If you’d like to read more about this project of this spec accessories brand and its identity, check out more via my portfolio site! If you have any brand identities you would like my insight building out, let’s talk! Thank you again to @ilovecreatives for curating my work so beautifully in this post and I hope y’all check them out 🫶🏾 by @ashiaamave

my new portfolio is liveeee ✨ this website finally showcases my brand, expertise and experience and the way I dreamed of. It took years of thinking, saving and learning *without* doing. Just allowing myself to learn without the pressure of implementing immediately. I hated it at the time, but it allowed my taste and craft to develop and show up when it was time to create. but now I have a website that doesn’t just say I’m a brand strategist, but how I’m a brand strategist, why I’m a brand strategist and who and what I’m a brand strategist for. All the things I wanted to articulate when I spoke about my work, all of the reasons are essential to the purpose. I’m proud of myself to say the least. I worked my behind off designing this site myself as a sort of thesis project for the end of my @ilovecreatives graphic design course. I was hustlin hard, but it’s all worth it. I couldn’t have done it without my @ilovecreatives instructor @punodostres and TA’s (@ Sarah and Mindy) who helped me tap back into my creative discipline 🫶🏾 go click around on my new site and tell me what you think! Also, if you know any brands in need of a brand strategist, please let me know! Send them my very new, very cool website! Creatives, you know you can always find me at my other cool website @brandbycmg 👋🏾 by @ashiaamave
This weekend, I led a workshop on personal branding at the @hbganttcenter for the Black Carolina Artist Residency. It was amazing! I was comfortable and confident about my expertise, we were all vibing and most importantly, the artists felt seen! I talked about the skeleton of a brand - positioning, messaging, platform strategy as well as what it actually means to build a personal brand and why it even matters. I get that most artists don’t want more rules thrown at them so this part really helped the info stick and land. One of the favorite “aha” moments was clarifying the difference between audience and clients. Which was, unless you’re a service provider - they’re not the same, but you can use your audience to reach your clients. Understanding that distinction changes where and how you show up. Free tip! My favorite part was working directly with artists, hearing their stories and goals in real time. Creatives have always been the heartbeat of my work. That’s why I started @brandbycmg (formally CMG - my day ones know!) in 2021. And I’m grateful institutions like the Gantt are investing in supporting their artists beyond the work itself but also their brand and marketing. Thank you! by @ashiaamave

I’m not gonna lie. I was feeling a little hesitant about going to @envsnfest as a millennial 🫣 I saw the promotion mainly being targeted toward Gen Z and Gen A and started to worry I was gonna be the out of touch oldie 😩 I know - too soon for these thoughts, but it was a whole thing lol. I ended up just releasing the expectation and focusing on letting whatever was going to be, be. I wanted to be grateful that I could show up in this space to be amongst other amazing creatives and entrepreneurs. And speaking of! Yo, I ended up spending so much of my time just in the vendor section. Now that I’m not just a creative, but an entrepreneur (hey @brandbycmg 👋🏾) I see and feel and respect the entrepreneur SO much more. It’s really not as easy as it looks so I knew if they were at @envsnfest, their moment didn’t come easy, and yet - they took a risk on themselves and still continue to do so! I love that for them and hearing everyone’s story was really inspiring. I was so excited as you could see there’s just so many pictures and videos, but my goal is to convey what an amusement part of wonder it was. The creativity, the mind, the inspiration, the talent like yea, that felt like home. I really had a lot of fun and I hope to be back :) by @ashiaamave
I just wanna post my best moments on here and process the hard stuff offline. That’s part of what “doing the hard work” looks like for me - finding moments of joy. I can’t and won’t go to my Instagram followers for help with real life sh*t - and that’s okay. I have actual resources and friends for that. But this helps me focus on the brighter side of things, because when I don’t post it, sometimes I convince myself the brighter side doesn’t exist. Is that sad? Probably, but it’s true. So please don’t judge my life based on these pictures. Or if you do judge, judge it as my digital museum, not my digital diary. Thanks for normalizing my humanity 🫶🏾 by @ashiaamave
Creatives say things like: “I don’t want to chase my dream at the compromise of my finances.” “I just need to figure out what my lane is.” “I feel like people don’t really understand what I do/what makes me different from others in my lane.” “I just want to focus on the art of what I make and not all the other stuff around it.” I have also said all these things. Maybe this post is just my projection. The point is most of the time, it’s not that we’re unclear, it’s that we’re layered. It was through frustration and lack of momentum that I really dedicated time to figure out what was going on: what I wanted to do, why, the impact I wanted to make, how I’m remembered. And I recognize when you’re “in the thing” most of us never have/had space to peel back those layers without being told we’re too deep, too slow or plainly “people probably don’t want to hear all that.” But if you’re a creative working behind the scenes to make advertising what we know it, I know you know, quite the opposite is true. They want to know ALL of that. That’s what Brand by CMG is. Not a branding factory or a niche builder. It’s a place to extract what’s true and then build from there. Your brand doesn’t need to be invented, It needs to be revealed! 🤯 (Sorry not sorry, that’s a bar - gotta give it the excitement it deserves!) I’m here for you. Let’s talk about how I can help you be the creative you really want to be. by @ashiaamave
