I’ve told thousands upon thousands of stories. Yet the hardest one to share is my own.

The career advice in business books and articles were ineffective. Either they were telling me as a woman to show up like a man. Or telling me as a Black person to assimilate. Or just ignoring the complicated dynamic of being Black and a woman or having a marginalized identity all together. (Baby if I lean in any further my face will be on the ground!)

Thank goodness for my squad that became an army to help me define my own rules and tell me I wasn’t crazy! That’s what I hope for YOU too! That you can live life on YOUR terms. What does it mean to make space?

Not just physically, but for the things we’ve been carrying without even realizing we’re carrying them.

In my conversation with @dionnadorsey she talked about clearing space in her creativity, her heart and her mind so she can actually receive what’s coming NEXT.

Sometimes we’re so focused on doing that we don’t stop to make room for what we truly want. Maybe that’s part of the work, too.

Are you really stuck or are you not considering unconventional options?

Tell young people what it really takes to navigate the real world. How you responded to rejection. What it took to convince people to give you a chance. The responsibility to help others along the way.

Just because something is hard, doesn’t mean it’s inaccessible. Just because it doesn’t happen in your way or on your timeline doesn’t mean it’s not on the way.

It feels like so many others have the opportunities.
The business.
The freedom.

The years nobody saw.
The money invested before there was a return.
The rejection.
The scrutiny.
The uncomfortable decisions.
Did I say the rejection?

Remember, we may see the result. We rarely see the road that got them there.
