Following her nomination on February 22nd, Emily Chavez was formally elected by the American University International Relations Society to serve as the Chargé d’Affaires for WIRC XIV on February 26th, 2026.

Emily’s career in AMIRS began as a chair for both WIRC XII and AmeriMUNC XII. By balancing a rigorous competitive schedule on the AUMUN team with outstanding leadership during American University’s own middle school and high school conferences, she was appointed as the Simulation Director of WIRC XIII and the Deputy Director of Education for AmeriMUNC XIII. Her unwavering commitment to WIRC XIII proved essential to the conference’s stellar results. Her insight and hard work led to her subsequent election to lead the fourteenth iteration of the Washington International Relations Conference (WIRC XIV) as Chargé d’Affaires.

In the thirteen years since the program’s inception, more than 2,800 American University students have sought a place on the WIRC and AmeriMUNC staff. While eighty reached the directorate and 60 joined the Secretariat, only fourteen of those 2,800+ applicants have ever attained the rank of Chargé D’Affaires. Emily has been a cornerstone in building a culture of integrity, persistence, and genuine inclusivity within the AMIRS community. Across every iteration of WIRC and AmeriMUNC she touched, she displayed constant drive and an uncompromising pursuit of excellence. Emily is set to guide WIRC with a bold vision for both the conference and the wider AMIRS organization. Tonight, we celebrate Emily’s milestones and proudly recognize her as the Chargé d’Affaires of WIRC XIV. taken in School of International Service, AU by @auwirc
