A lot has been made lately of the devolution of concert etiquette. But whether it’s because of changing social tides or the specific trance that Baltimore dream-pop ensemble @beaccchhoussse can put you in, Sunday’s crowd for their marathon set at @bbowlnashville was rapt and attuned to each other. Phone recordings were considerate and brief. As the band played “Lazuli,” from their 2012 album ‘Bloom,’ the audience swayed along in the same rhythm. With “Sparks,” singer Victoria Legrand leaned back from her keyboard into the light, and Alex Scally’s guitar soared. Someone noticed @avparnell writing in her notebook and asked if she was psychic. After more than four decades working together, Indigo Girls are still evolving. In 2020, the duo released their most recent LP, 'Look Long' — a reflective record with roots in drives to-and-from Nashville from their home turf in Georgia. 'Look Long' continues Amy Ray and Emily Saliers’ career of musical activism. It also has the expansive view of existence that’s become an Indigo Girls trademark, braiding science, religion and politics into a syncretic way of looking at the world. Before their fall run of shows, the pair announced that Saliers had been diagnosed with two movement disorders that affect her ability to sing. “We’re trying to look at this organically, as a process of our own aging,” she shared. The shows continue, and on Sept. 30, they’ll play the Ryman with support from Linda Perry, who might be best known as frontwoman of 4 Non Blondes but released a new solo LP, 'Let It Die Here,' in May. Ahead of the show, Saliers and Ray caught up with @avparnell about reflection, change, and some of their favorite artists working today. They also teased new music. Read more at the link in our bio. It’s an interesting vibe midday on a weekday at Donelson Strike and Spare, the local gem of a bowling alley that Brennan Wedl calls “severely underrated.” It’s where she suggested meeting with the Scene for an interview over a round of bowling and a mean game of air hockey. A kid is darting into the arcade and some serious bowling regulars are filing in, chatting with the employees and setting up for solo daytime practices. Wedl’s ripped black-and-orange striped tights are perfect for the last days before Halloween season, and they make for a great look with Strike and Spare’s flame-print bowling shoes. “I like to have my birthday party here,” she says. Wedl brings a refreshing sense of play to the often gloomy intersection of noise rock and Americana. On her August self-titled album, her debut release for ANTI-, she revels in late-night outings and whimsical imagery. She'll play multiple local venues next week. BLYTHE MINI ME!! @madeleinegbradford came over and we followed the @sixneptunes tutorial for customizing Blythe dolls. we skipped all the face carving and makeup bits but it still took five hours. we listened to Perfume Genius the whole time and she gave me my favorite compliment I’ve ever received: “You have the magic touch for ripping out the eyeballs.” I made mine a shirt to match my favorite shirt (pattern from Creative404) and a little denim skirt (pattern from Miseducated) to compete the fit. shoes next. the bag is from a big thrifted set of Barbie clothes and might be Monster High? idk. eyes are brown/Van Gogh sunflowers/moons/violet and via ResinRapture and MyMisfitToyBox templates. Dolly Parton — musician, humanitarian and global icon — has died, according to official announcements made public by her family. She was 80. A release notes that Parton died peacefully Tuesday in Nashville. From her storied music career to her philanthropic work and stints as an actress, author, playwright and producer, Parton was known and loved as a Tennessee icon. @papercuthorror, a new local book truck, will officially open with a launch party at @faitlaforcebrewing on Aug. 28, and will sell horror books as well as less scary stories with “rich gothic elements.” Iza Hudson, the truck's proprietor, is a longtime horror fanatic who previously worked in publishing. After seeing the success of local book trucks like @slowburntn, which moved into an East Nashville brick-and-mortar in 2025, Hudson decided a mobile store focusing on her favorite genre was worth a shot — and hit the ground running.
