One of my prominent, childhood memories is of my great grandmother inspecting platters and plates before they went out to be served. She would prompt me to wipe off the edges if they were streaked with sauce or adjust the food on them.

Everyone deserves pretty things, young and old. No adjustment is too small and how you do things not just what you do, matter.

Details are important. They communicate care. I want my kids to feel the intentionality, that I can now name, that my grandmother moved with.

Because even the babies will remember and treasure the “little fork.”

When you rolled up to the Combine in your new sports car, I just knew you’d forever be my peoples. You gave it to folks straight. If the food was nasty, we’d know. If the people were nasty, they’d know. The babies got loved on. The community is better. Because of your wisdom, affirming presence and laugh. I hope they have soap operas and Pepsi where you are. I miss you big. I love you bigger.

Phew! The past few weeks have been a whirlwind….

This baby, our firstborn, reached some milestones…

She got her actual driver’s license.

All within a few days of each other, my grandmother, mother, husband and Ken celebrated their birthdays. (I’m drowning in Aquarians y’all. Send help. 😩😆)

And Ken turned 21!( I kept waiting for something to happen, like perhaps I’d feel lighter because one of ours is considered to be a legal adult. But let me tell you, times moves fast and if anything, I’ve become more anxious thinking of all there is for her to do and see with this extra level of freedom. There’s still so much to learn from and teach each other. The parenting journey continues…)

And so, a time was had… (shout out to my nephew and niece for holding things down at the fete and beyond)

Then, on the morning of Ken’s actual birthday, I had the honour of welcoming the FIFTH child of a repeat client (who also shares Keith’s birthday)
The baby, named Love, is a reminder to do everything with, and that we are all connected.
