@timeoutnewyork reached out to us about our book pop-up and we were absolutely blown away to have any attention directed towards our little labor of love.
Thank you so much to Amber, the Food and Drink Editor, for the write up, to @strongropebrewery for having us, and everyone who’s donated or bought a book from our shelves so far!! We’ve sold at least one a day since our opening just over a week ago which is a big deal for cold winter days in red hook! The reception has been so positive, we feel incredibly lucky to have such support for this project of ours.
To books and community 🖤 happy reading!

this Sunday! red hook friends @rvahey and @ooh_shh and I are putting together a little art mart featuring a whacky skoolie and two 1977 and 1960 airstreams! backroom books will be in the skoolie slinging books alongside other very cool vendors selling handmade rugs, oddities and antiques, as well as some prints. 15% of all proceeds go to @sweetreliefmusiciansfund in honor of our friend Jesse. hope to see you there 💋❤️ taken in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York by @backroom_books

solstice, baby! the summer weather is finally here and @strongropebrewery is throwing a banger on Friday. We’ll have a selection of summer reads out, as well as art books, poetry for under $5, and a BOGO for select titles. As usual, all our books are half off retail price or more, the only difference is we’ll be manning the table in person! Come say hi, watch a whole pig get roasted, sip an ice cold Pilsner, buy some records from our neighbors, pet all the good doggies, and kick back for that unbeatable red hook sunset 😎🌅 oh and don’t forget sun protection! by @backroom_books

happy pride month, it’s a protest not a parade 🏳️‍⚧️✊
In many ways reading is a form of resistance, it subverts the attention economy and improves reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Reading is also a way of exploring the world through diverse perpectives, which develops emotional intelligence and improves how we connect to each other in person. Anyway, I had some fun compiling our fav queer books we’ve read to date, a few of them are up for grabs on our shelves 📚
bookshop.org is also running a 20% sale off select titles for pride on their site if you’re feeling like something new, but don’t forget to check your local library first ✨ taken in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York by @backroom_books

The next reading of our series, hosted by poet @shelbyacook will be the last before we take a little summer break ☀️
We'll have the incredible @amandakhorn Robert Smith @umakemespew69 @robdtaylor_litalien plus any other attendees who would like to participate as usual.

RSVP (link in bio) and get a dollar off beer all night 🍻 We are limiting attendance for health and safety reasons, masks are encouraged.

Note: this series does not have a mic or stage, we are opting for a more casual living room/roundtable-style reading, so you must be comfortable projecting.
