An absolute pleasure to have been connected with @jackibarklie over these last few years. Our most recent project - a video tour through her creative space @backstudio_ 🎥

Jacki is an artist with such an incredible array of skills and mediums. I've loved playing a small part in helping tell her artistic story and I hope you enjoy the tour! taken in Back Studio by @backstudio_

Lucent Strata….
Resident artist Jacki Barklie is an experimental mixed-media artist whose practice is driven by curiosity, desire and a fascination with material, light and space. Working across textiles, paint, paper and unconventional materials, she continually pushes boundaries and allows her work to evolve through experimentation.

At the heart of Jacki’s practice is an interest in people and the spaces they inhabit — how we connect with our surroundings, how a piece of art can change the feeling of a space, and how it can contribute to the story or narrative of a place.

Her latest body of work, Lucent Strata, represents a significant breakthrough, opening a new direction where art moves towards interiors, design, light and spatial experience.

A study on form…

Recently, I’ve been drawn to shape, form and the possibilities of materials.

Taking recycled art paper and reimagining what it can become — moving beyond the flat surface, experimenting with methods, and allowing the material to find a new life as a sculptural form.

A little curiosity, a little experimentation, and the joy of discovering something unexpected.

What happens when paper becomes more than paper?

Circles are symbolic to me — no beginning, no end. Whole. Fulfilled. Soft. Open. Safe.

For me, they represent people and the connections between us.
