We built an online farmers market so your plate comes from a farmer, not a corporation.

With so much food confusion out there, the one thing that has grounded humans for millennia is eating what’s grown and produced nearby. We make that easy by delivering food from people we know by name, straight to your door.

Tomatoes in summer, field strawberries in spring, cozy soups in winter, and the first hard squashes coming out of the fields this fall… it just makes sense.

This is how I want to eat, and it’s how I want to feed my people, too.

“My daughter wants to know what’s going on here, and how she can be a part of it.”

The middle aged woman leaned out the window of her mini van and addressed the six of us sprawled on asphalt, snacking on the last of our 3 day old salami and the apples we’d lugged up 6,000 feet and back, the apples we needed to eat, damn it, to justify the weight we carried all that way.

“We’re best friends from college and met up to go backpacking!”

“So you’ve all got similar interests, similarly athletic, you all made it happen? That’s so special!”

It wasn’t the first reflection of the sort that we’d received this week. Mirrored back to us in the faces of volunteer rangers, local friends, and strangers was the same enthusiasm and awe we felt at being together for a week in the great outdoors, having flown in from the world over to prioritize this time together.

It *was* so special. So special to be 28 (and 29), to chat breakups and career transitions in the shadow of the Grand Teton, to crash our friend’s local radio show, to giggle under the stars and entertain each other to no end.

So special to see the place @yescarly calls home, and so special to be reminded of the home we have in each other.

From cyclospora to salmonella, the national food safety headlines are concerning.

But at The Produce Box, we’ve been charting a different way for 17 years.

We partner with over 100 North Carolina farmers and small food producers to offer home delivery of local food through our online farmers market.

We’ve got lettuce from growers we know by name, cage free (and salmonella free) eggs from just down the road, and over 500 local products every week.

This is what it means to eat like you live here.

The farmers benefit, the consumers benefit, and together, we sustain our local food system 🤝

I hear from so many people that they don’t know where to start when it comes to herbalism.

That they’re overwhelmed, or afraid of doing it “wrong.”

What if herbalism wasn’t something you got right… but a relational practice?

Over the past few years, herbs and medicine making have become a steady part of my life, something I squeeze in the moments in between.

Overnight infusions prepped to take to my fluorescent-lit office. Decanting a tincture I forgot I made 5 months later when I find it in the back of a shelf. Watering my plants only once I can no longer ignore their pathetic wilting.

Herbalism is messy, raw, and rewarding. You learn as you go and build a web of more-than-human relationships along the way.

I feel passionate about sharing this life-giving practice with others, which is why herbalism is a central part of every @integracollective offering - stay tuned for more opportunities to learn together 😇 by @baileyinterbeing

Long tangles of seaweed, aquamarine waters, a curving, rocky coast; a splash of floral purple for good measure.

When I pasted these photos on my vision board 8 months ago at our last @integracollective retreat, never did I envision they’d take me to the beaches of Clan MacNeil.

My Aunt Layne had just told me of her hopes for a Scotland trip, and I didn’t know much about the tiny island that MacNeils of old laid claim to.

But Barra was calling, and we meant to answer. “Barradise”, “Barrabados”, a southern Isle on the rugged Outer Hebrides, the land where perhaps my direct ancestors lived, and hauled peat, and fished for herring, and struggled to eke out an existence amongst such breathtaking beauty. Or, perhaps not.

All I know is that I’m a McNeill, and coming here felt like coming home. All I know is that my past self somehow saw the bridge to my future self, and it brought me here.

I sometimes wonder — is it manifestation, or premonition? I’ve scripted my future too many times to count at this point, whether it be in image or writing.

I stepped inside the dark bar, having risen from a lie in the cliff side field, my face pressed to sea thrift and eyes on the horizon.

“Family,” I declared. “We must go outside for a photo shoot.”
