Something very special is coming up! The first major group exhibition to be on display simultaneously at the Chiquita Room galleries in Barcelona and Brussels draws inspiration from Francis Ponge’s book 𝘓𝘦 𝘚𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘯 and brings a diverse group of artists together around a simple object that also has so many layers to it. Soap, that common personal item that appears so insignificant, becomes a focal point for addressing questions about the body, material, care, desire, transformation and our everyday rituals, but also about grief, migration, power and war. 𝘓𝘦 𝘚𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘯, 𝘦𝘵 𝘤𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢 opens 18 November in Barcelona and 25 November in Brussels. More information about it all very soon. @albayruela @aliansyahcaniago @barbaralegre @elisaverkoelen @fermin.jimenezlanda @isabelbanalx #jaumepitarch @l___________z @louis_b_porter @mmichel_francois #oksanapasaiko @olga_holzschuh @pieterlaurensmol robertkleyn @an.arch.ives @srgdmlln @shilpaguptastudio @teresaestape @xana.m.sousa by @barbaralegre

Two months in the countryside and feeling genuinely happy. The slow pace has been perfect for focusing on new work for upcoming exhibitions, trying to make sense of my practice in this new space—a proper red studio. Goodbye Yayoi Kusama (1929 - 2026). Her iconic polka dots were a language of survival, born from deep pain and used to anchor herself. By living in a psychiatric facility while creating her universe, she championed mental health resilience and proved art is a lifeline. ❤️ #YayoiKusama #MentalHealthMatters #ContemporaryArt by @barbaralegre

I feel it’s important to remember: Six years ago today, I lost my parents to COVID-19. This body of work explores my journey through pain, trauma, and healing in the process of grieving. I painted these portraits of my mother using the makeup and brushes she left behind. Her DNA is all over them—an attempt to keep her physically present and eternal. This slow-paced farewell found its end only when I ran out of her makeup. When existence is reduced to pain, finding healthy ways to cope becomes a priority. For me, art has been vital for my mental health and emotional wellbeing. Trauma often resists words; painting became a way to solve an inner jigsaw puzzle, shifting my pain outward and leading to acceptance, honoring, and relocation. These pieces reflect on psychoanalytic concepts of sublimation and reparation (Freud, Lacan, Klein), using her makeup as a transitional object (Winnicott) to bridge the gap left by her absence. These works are about her, made of her, and for her. 🤍 @ioneandmann @belenferrermodolell #josemariaalegre #ioneandmann #barbaralegre #artasashelter #artandgrief by @barbaralegre
Constant Becoming, 2025 Oil on canvas 30 x 40 cm The perception of our persona is complex and multi-fractured. Self is not a static or fixed point but a journey of constant becoming. #barbaralegre #barbaraalegre #womenartists #artforreflecting #artcollector by @barbaralegre
“Unit of Love “, 2026 Oil on canvas 30 x 40 cm This piece explores the reflection not as narcissism, but as introspection. It invites a kind internal dialogue, free from self-pressure and framed by beauty. In my opinion the way we speak to ourselves is the most fundamental building block of self-love—a gentle recognition of who we truly are. “The Sum of Fragments”, 2026 Oil on canvas 80 x 80 cm Today is my 50th birthday, and it’s also the closing day of my solo booth with Dohing Art at NADA New York. Sharing this specific self-portrait feels incredibly full-circle. “The Sum of Fragments” is a faceless portrait designed as an open box—a time capsule housing the belongings, aspirations, memories, and sorrows that map an identity. In this work, objects transcend their form to become subjects; fragments that narrate the self. It reflects an underlying intent to impose order, suggesting a sense of control over the chaos of memory. Half a century of gathering fragments, and I couldn’t be more grateful for where they’ve led me. Thank you to @dohingart for a wonderful fair, and for your trust and support. Thank you to everyone who came out to experience the work. @newartdealers Starrett-Lehigh Building, Chelsea Dohing Art - Booth E15 May 13–17 #NADANewYork #DohingArt #selfportrait #barbaralegre #barbaraalegre by @barbaralegre
