Voices for Healing was a huge success!! With the participation of 21 singers and 4 pianists from @riceshepherdschool we raised almost $8000 both online and with in-person donations! I cannot sing quite yet so my friends took on the mantle with a deeply ambitious program that was performed with expertise. Our recital livestream will stay online for everyone to experience themselves!! We have decided to donate $1000 of our excess between the Palmer memorial outreach council, Archway Academy, Emergency Aid Coalition, and Lord of Streets! Thank to all of the performers for helping me do this!! Thank you to @palmerchurch for hosting this beautiful program! Thank you to @alisathegreat44 for being my excellent house manager (and everything else in between!!) and thank you to all who donated in my time of need! taken in Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church by @baritoneburrows

Hello everyone! I’d like to share a tad bit about what’s happened in the past month. During the first week of the semester, I fell off my e-bike at high speeds on August 27th. I was in the hospital very quickly due to witnesses of my crash coming to my aid immediately. Within two hours, I had an emergency craniotomy surgery to address a skull fracture/epidural hematoma. I was discharged on August 31st and sent home to recover and attend out-patient treatment. After three weeks, I’ve been cleared today to come back to school on September 21st. I’ve been so incredibly blessed that this hasn’t taken my ability to walk or speak, and my cognitive function improves every single day! I’m also incredibly blessed by the love and care of my community here in Houston. In 10 days, my dear colleagues will perform a benefit recital on my behalf to help me raise $5,000 for my medical expenses. I’ll be adding a link to a livestream of the event to both this post and my bio when I have it. In the meantime, if you would like to help me with a donation, there’s a link in my bio. by @baritoneburrows

I’m so excited to post about a new opera we are performing on February 1st, 2026 at The Brockman Hall for Opera with The Shepherd School’s phenomenal chamber orchestra, conducting students, and Conducted by Miguel Harth-Bedoya and Directed by Paul Curran! @miguelharthbedoya @paulcurranopera @anaspasovska_ I am so grateful to be in the world premiere of @karimalzand’s contemporary opera, A Joint Interest. Joined by so many incredible, talented colleagues for the 50th Anniversary continuation of The Shepherd School of Music! This opera is so funny and if you have the chance to support the students here, please come out and watch this! It is a double bill with Bolcom’s Lucretia. Working through this opera has been a pleasure and premiering a new work is one of the greatest privileges for young artists! Thank you so much to @shepherd_school for these opportunities! @riceuniversity @ricegradschool How lucky we are to make music, to share music, and have art in our lives! #dramaticoperadiva #shepherdschoolofmusic #riceuniversity #karimalzand #modernopera taken in Shepherd School of Music by @baritoneburrows

"The production was top-notch, inventive and very entertaining. Not only were the students exceptionally gifted technically, they were expert storytellers!" "Overwhelmingly excellent in all aspects. Probably my favorite opera, and I’ve seen it 5-6 times all over the country... Just beyond expectation! Thank you so much - the performance has stayed with me for days." Glowing audience reviews are in for our sold-out performances of The Magic Flute, directed by R. B. Schlather and conducted by Louis Lohraseb. Congratulations to everyone involved! 👏 📷 : Lynn Lane Photography by @baritoneburrows
