Personal - @barrybarryferns
Why does inequality feel permanent - even when we know it’s a problem?
Let’s talk about it 👇🏻

Darwin didn’t say “survival of the fittest.”
A rich philosopher did and the rich have been quoting him ever since.

Funny how evolution always seems to ‘favour’ whoever’s already on top.

To anyone just joining, hi I’m Barry. I’m a comedian whose personal journey through failure, homelessness, and rebuilding led me to explore the socio and behavioural economics of inequality. ‪

@garyseconomics inspired me to give talking about something I’ve been passionate about for ages a go - and now here we are with over 12k YouTube subscribers!

I wanted to talk a bit more into how systems of power shape our identity, behaviour, and beliefs, and how we can shift the stories we tell ourselves and each other about poverty, inequality, and who’s to blame - and why I’m talking about all of these things.

Give me a follow here and a subscribe on my YouTube (link in bio) for future videos. There will also be longer and more in-depth stuff up on my YouTube if you’re interested!

As an NHS psychiatrist, I don’t meet many millionaires (although I’ve met a few patients who believe they own the Bank of England)

But I do love football.

So I was honoured to play a charity match for @patrioticmillionairesuk @garyseconomics @barryseconomics

The catch? The game was rigged. TEAM WEALTH inherited a goal, earned interest on goals, had 15 players and a biased ref (with his brown envelope @spenfc can now pay to get his eyes tested)

By half-time, unsurprisingly TEAM WORK were losing 5–2.

Then we levelled the playing field, and played normally. We came back to win and I even bagged a few goals.

Working with homeless people, I see the daily impact of inequality. They say money can’t buy happiness, but poverty certainly doesn’t help. I can offer antidepressants but I really wish I could prescribe food, financial security and a warm home out of the rain.

With billionaires multiplying alongside more tents on our high streets, I’ll happily support campaigns to make society fairer.

And if that doesn’t happen, at least I’ve got footage of me skinning @garyseconomics ⚽️🏆 taken in Hashtag United FC by @barryseconomics

New rules! Football rules mirror the economy rules. Millionaires, comedians, footballers, and content creators are putting on a football match to show how rigged the economy really is.
