Outfield cameo and goal for Team Work vs Team Wealth!

This game was organised to highlight the ‘rigged’ economy in favour of wealth in comparison to work - with a goal chalked off for Team Work due to tax and a goal scored for Team Wealth due to interest amongst the interesting twists in the first half.

A wealth tax introduced at half time then levelled the playing field & Team Work ended victorious.

Wealth inequality is growing exponentially - according to Oxfam the richest 1% in the UK hold more wealth than 70% of Britons. Extreme wealth surges at the same time extreme poverty grows. Tax reform is needed.

What a match! The Super-Rich Tax Football Match showed it’s time to level the playing field. Team Wealth’s advantage was finally made fair once a wealth tax was introduced and Team Work even managed to win the game! Hear post-match interviews from Barry Ferns of @barryseconomics and Gary Stevenson of @garyseconomics.

Our call to the Chancellor ahead of this year’s Budget is to tax the super-rich. A 2% wealth tax on people with net assets over £10 million would raise £24 billion a year from taxing around 22,000 people in the UK — money that could be used to finance climate justice and tackle poverty.On the pitch, Work won. Now it’s time to win off it too.

Bravo to all that took part and to the all the fans who came along to watch!

As we’ve seen today it’s really time to level the playing field the UK.

As an NHS psychiatrist, I don’t meet many millionaires (although I’ve met a few patients who believe they own the Bank of England)

But I do love football.

So I was honoured to play a charity match for @patrioticmillionairesuk @garyseconomics @barryseconomics

The catch? The game was rigged. TEAM WEALTH inherited a goal, earned interest on goals, had 15 players and a biased ref (with his brown envelope @spenfc can now pay to get his eyes tested)

By half-time, unsurprisingly TEAM WORK were losing 5–2.

Then we levelled the playing field, and played normally. We came back to win and I even bagged a few goals.

Working with homeless people, I see the daily impact of inequality. They say money can’t buy happiness, but poverty certainly doesn’t help. I can offer antidepressants but I really wish I could prescribe food, financial security and a warm home out of the rain.

With billionaires multiplying alongside more tents on our high streets, I’ll happily support campaigns to make society fairer.

And if that doesn’t happen, at least I’ve got footage of me skinning @garyseconomics ⚽️🏆
