NO MORE BOOTS IN THE COUNTRYSIDE!
CANADIAN TROOPS GO AWAY! JUNK THE SOVFA!

November 2nd, 2026 marks one year since the signing of the The Status of Visiting Forces Agreement (SOVFA) between Canada and the Philippines signed by Canadian Defense Minister David McGuinty and Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro as part of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.

The SOVFA allows for a stronger collaboration between the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), but whose interests does it truly serve?

BAYAN BC calls on Filipinos across BC to stand united with the Filipino people, particularly victims of human rights violations and militarization in the countryside.

FROM ASEAN TO PAX SILICA

US-Led Imperialist Blocs and the Deindustrialization of the Philippines

Who really stands to gain from yet another US-led initiative to control critical minerals and strategic supply chains? As Donald Trump and Mark Carney head to Manila for the ASEAN Summit, we'll examine how Pax Silica advances US imperialist interests while creating further opportunities for foreign mining corporations, particularly Canada's dominant mining industry, to profit from the Philippines' resources. Despite Carney's "elbows up" rhetoric at home, why is Canada positioned to benefit from this US-led initiative, and what does it mean for the Filipino people?

This National Peasant Day in the Philippines, BAYAN International joins the peasant movement in their just struggle for land, livelihood, and a future free of fascist repression.

We Filipinos overseas must see ourselves in the peasant struggle, not simply on moral grounds, but as a matter of class solidarity. A substantial proportion of Filipino migrants hail from the peasant class. We are a people displaced twice: first from the countryside, and then from our very own country. As we continue to advance struggles particular to migrants and our diaspora, we must remember that without solving the basic problem of land and livelihood back home, we will only be addressing the symptoms of labor export and not its roots.

BAYAN International calls on the entire Filipino diaspora overseas to stand with the peasant movement. Let us be proud of and inspired by those among our ranks who returned to the Philippines to learn and take action alongside the toiling farmers: Lyle Prijoles, Kai Sorem, Christina Pasion, Amado Khaya Canham Rodriguez, and many more. Let us return home and join the struggles of the toiling masses to strike at the roots of our shared exploitation and oppression. by @bayancanada

BAYAN BC welcomes Mary Jane Veloso’s pardon as a people’s victory & calls for Filipinos to remain critical of the Labor Export Policy

BAYAN BC Statement
Sept 25, 2026

On September 24, 2026, Mary Jane Veloso was granted an absolute pardon by President Marcos Jr. Mary Jane was a victim to a drug trafficking scheme, where her recruiters tricked her into transporting drugs into Indonesia, without her knowledge or consent. She was caught by Indonesian authorities and sentenced to death. Through a global campaign led by Migrante International and her family, her execution was stopped and custody over Mary Jane was transferred to the Philippine government. After 15 years in Indonesian detention, in December 2024, Mary Jane entered confinement in the Philippines. She remained in jail until her pardon was granted yesterday, despite having committed no crime.

Throughout three presidencies and over sixteen years, the world watched as Mary Jane’s justice was continuously delayed. Marcos Jr held the authority to grant clemency to Mary Jane from 2024 onwards, but instead he chose to delay such decisions stating “we will leave it to the legal judgement of our legal experts to determine whether the provision of clemency is appropriate.” Such obscuring of power and lack of willingness to help an OFW who had spent over a decade wrongfully imprisoned, truly exposes the Marcos regime’s disregard for Filipino migrant workers.

Under the Labour Export Policy, Filipinos are shipped abroad to earn and remit money back home. This policy is used as a pressure valve and directs attention away from the need to build lasting industry and bolster employment at home. Mary Jane is one of the millions of Filipinos who were forced overseas to find livelihood, due to the crisis of poverty and unemployment in the Philippines. Numerous OFWs are labour trafficked to Canada, where many end up tied to the Temporary Foreign Workers Program. This program was dubbed by UN special rapporteur Obokata as “modern day slavery,” due to the exploitation and abuse workers endure.

Under the current political system, the wealthy continue to evade accountability, while the poor are prosecuted for crimes t by @bayancanada

NEVER FORGET! NEVER AGAIN TO MARTIAL LAW! by @bayancanada

BAYAN BC Statement
Sept 20, 2026

Last year on September 21, hundreds in Vancouver flooded the streets to speak out against the shameless and corrupt government in the Philippines. Through our collective action, we joined a wave of protest across the globe of overseas Filipinos united for justice and accountability.

Since then, while arrest warrants for various individuals have been issued, the system of plunder and corruption has been maintained. President Marcos Jr remains the chief architect of the national budget and profiteer of corruption. It was revealed last year that Marcos Jr himself benefitted from budget insertions and cash deliveries, showing that the rot of corruption extends to the highest levels of government.

Meanwhile, the Filipino people are devastated by unmitigated flooding, record high inflation, and joblessness that pushes us abroad. The violence of the system cannot be denied. The blood of our kababayan who drown in the floods, starve in the streets, or collapse from overworking abroad, is on the hands of Marcos Jr and his cronies.

It is undeniably clear that what is needed is systemic change. We need a system that will put the Filipino people first and hold accountable the elite who are greedily pocketing our futures. Such a system is only possible if we fight for it. And so we ask our fellow Filipinos here in BC who are fed up and ready for change to join us today at 2pm at Metrotown station.

Join the movement to liberate the Philippines from the plague of corruption and servitude to foreign powers.

BAYAN BC SAYS NO TO PAX SILICA

Pax Silica is not the solution to the lack of jobs, low wages, and rising prices in the country. Now more than ever, we must struggle for national industrialization in order to create industries that prioritize workers' rights and welfare, environmental protection, and sovereignty.

Filipinos abroad have everything to lose if Pax Silica were to push through. The subjugation of the Philippine economy to the US’ economic and geopolitical interests itself creates the massive poverty that gives rise to forced migration. The ESZ would set a dangerous precedent in exacerbating this subservience. Filipinos abroad also play a critical role in fighting back against Pax Silica. We are working and living in the very countries signed onto the initiative: the United States, Australia, Korea, Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, and many more. These governments, as well as the companies and even universities based there, are all targets for our campaign.

BAYAN International calls on all Filipinos abroad to continue arousing, organizing, and mobilizing our fellow communities and solidarity friends around the issue of Pax Silica and US intervention. Let us build broad alliances that can amplify and join the efforts of NO to Pax Silica in the Philippines! by @bayancanada

🌈📢 ANG PRIDE AY PROTESTA! 📢🌈

Pride is and will always be a protest!

Pride began as a liberation movement through the collective resistance of the LGBTQIA2S+ community who refused to be silenced, criminalized, and pushed to the margins of society.

As an organization fighting for the liberation of women and gender diverse people, GABRIELA BC reaffirms that the struggle for LGBTQIA2S+ rights is not separate from the struggle for national democracy and a society free of oppression and exploitation.

The ongoing discrimination faced by the LGBTQIA2S+ community in the Philippines is further intensified by rampant corruption, anti-people policies, and violent state repression imposed by the US-Marcos regime. In the face of rising living costs, low wages, and deteriorating public services, the LGBTQIA2S+ community continues to be neglected and criminalized.

Instead of protecting the community by passing the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC) bill, investing in more inclusive schools, funding quality health services, or developing a national industry that would benefit all Filipino people, the state continues to cater to foreign and corporate interests through Pax Silica and military deals like Canada’s Status of Visiting Forces Agreement (SoVFA) with the Philippines.

💜 GABRIELA BC stands in solidarity with the LGBTQIA2S+ community to collectively resist the system that continues to fail them and all Filipinos across the globe. Until the state addresses the root causes of this inequality and worsening conditions, we will continue to fight!

Join Gabriela BC to continue the history of Pride as struggle against oppression‼️
