Can Erica claim the World Record for broad jump? Can Ricardo reclaim his men's APEX crown in Miami? I sat down and talked with Erica and Ricardo after their APEX performances back in April in Austin. 💨 Ricardo Alvarez, also known as @championshipfit , shares his journey from high school sports injuries to becoming a performance coach and athlete. He won the APEX competition in Austin in 2026 with a blistering 4.4 40, jumping 10’2” on his broad jump and 40”+ on his vertical jump. He discusses the importance of multi-sport training, injury prevention, and the evolution of speed and performance training. 🐰 Erica Lowery, the 24-year-old strength coach at South Alabama whose vertical jump videos have made her a standout on social media, discusses jumping higher, training smarter, and her Apex experiences and goals. She goes into her volleyball background, her path into strength and conditioning, her coaching philosophy: building around consistent fundamentals, choosing exercises that suit the athlete, and the use of Olympic-lift variations when they’re appropriate. We also cover the relationship between jumping and sprinting, improving approach-jump technique, and her future goals: touching a regulation rim, reaching a 40-inch vertical, and pursuing a record-level broad jump. 🎙️ The full episodes are now live on YouTube and Spotify. Links in bio of @behindthebouncepod With Erica and Ricardo competing again tomorrow, it'll be exciting to see how far they've come since we recorded this conversation. . . . . #BehindTheBounce #VerticalJump #Volleyball #SportsPerformance #sprinting by @behindthebouncepod

How high can he get his vert with vertical jump training? 🤔 While every athlete has a unique backstory, there are some common characteristics and trends for guys who jump 40"+ 1. They typically have a history of jumping or doing a variety of sports since they were a kid 2. They're typically lean and/or especially if they are shorter, have a decent amount of muscle mass 3. Not all but a fair amount of great two foot jumpers who jump 40"+ are relatively very strong Jullian meets all these . . . . . #verticaljumptraining #dunking #verticaljump #TrainLikeAnAthlete #bounceacademy by @behindthebouncepod
You’re still an athlete at the end of the day ⬇️ Pro dunker & Bounce Academy coach Anthony Height breaks down how balancing life off the court still requires discipline. Partying, drinking, smoking - none of it is “free.” What you do outside the gym always shows up in your performance. You don’t have to live like a monk to perform at a high level but you do have to live with intention. Whether you're an aspiring pro athlete or recreational athlete that wants to perform at a high level for a sustained period of time, elite performance isn’t just built in workouts. It’s built in everyday decisions. Balance doesn’t mean excess, it means discipline. You can enjoy life, but you’re still an athlete. And your body keeps receipts. 🎥 Credit: @dunkademics . . . . . #bounceacademy #verticaljump #performancetraining #dunking #strengthandconditioning by @behindthebouncepod
You want to slow cook the process @icantlevitate and @_tylerlutz_ are great examples of being able to get very freaky by doing their sport and doing the basics in the gym and getting really good at them Oftentimes, athletes (myself included) want to short cut the process and jump right into very specific training meaning faster reps, more shallow ranges of motion, a lot heavier weight, over emphasis on plus when trying to jump higher and get more athletic While this is great for peaking, if you do this for too long or without building up a proper base you are more likely to get injured and miss out on even more gains A lot of the work will come doing the basics. Olympians do this and a lot of freaky athletes have trained this way. Getting damn good at the basics. There's a time and place for most types of training but knowing when and for how long makes a big difference If you're an Olympic athlete like Tyler, a professional athlete like @alexdunks101 , or an older athlete wanting to get their vertical jump higher like @ambroseamin The coaching process is seamless with our new Bounce Academy app out now on iOS and Android . . . . . #verticaljumptraining #dunking #dunktraining #verticaljump #basketball #strengthandconditioning #hooping #jumping #athlete #volleyball #performancecoach #firstdunk #collegebasketball #bounceacademy #performancetraining by @behindthebouncepod

Max jump everyday?? Context matters Most people just grab the headlines but don't look for or understand the context If your goal is to jump higher, the law of specificity wins. You need to jump. But how frequently and how much definitely depends on WHO you are If you are someone that is pre-puberty and has relatively low outputs, jumping max effort pretty frequently is something that you can get away with and should probably do. As someone who had tendinopathy in their knees as a teenager, I wouldn't just say everyone should be max jumping every day. It definitely depends on the individual and even then so, I'd gradually build it up over time. I wouldn't just go from 0 to every single day Do you want to jump like @andy.behle or @eyesonheight or an older athlete trying to get his bounce back like me? 📱The coaching process is seamless with my new Bounce Academy app out now on iOS and Android If you're new to the gym or want to go after some new goals, getting a coach for a period of time is a TIME saver...not to mention a good one can probably help you reduce your risk of injury or even help with the rehabilitation process 📽️ credit to @dunkademics @jordankilganon . . . . . #trainlikeanathlete #verticaljumptraining #dunking #dunktraining #verticaljump #dunkjourney #basketball #volleyball #strengthandconditioning #firstdunk #performancetraining #bounceacademy #behindthebounce #verticaljumpmyths by @behindthebouncepod
