Just because you said YES doesn’t mean your spouse feels wanted. 👀

There’s a difference between participating in intimacy and communicating desire.

Your words might say yes…

But what is your body language communicating?

What about your attitude?

Your affection?

Your willingness to pursue your spouse, too?

Your spouse doesn’t just want to be tolerated. They want to feel desired.

And genuine desire can’t be demanded. It’s cultivated through trust, connection, and intentionality from BOTH people.

Marriage requires more than going through the motions.

What’s the difference between feeling accepted and feeling desired? 👇

Was it 3 times or 4? 😂

Every couple has that story: the one you both remember completely differently. And somehow, it’s always worth stopping the whole conversation to settle it.

This is real life at the House of Legacy. 😅

But here’s the question from this week’s episode: does it actually matter who’s right? Or is the need to correct costing you more than it’s worth?

🎙️ “The Need to Correct” is out now. Link in bio.

Tag your spouse and tell us: who’s the one keeping score on the details in your house? 👇

Do you correct your spouse’s stories in front of other people? 👀

Sometimes it’s about getting the facts right. Sometimes it’s about being right. And your spouse can feel the difference every time.

This week on The House of Legacy Podcast, IV + Bené unpack the need to correct: where it comes from, what it does to respect in your marriage, and how to know when to let it go.

🎙️ Full episode available now. Link in bio.

Be honest in the comments: are you the corrector or the corrected? 👇

When you’re young and building a marriage, you rarely think about the day you’ll sit side by side, watching your grandchildren play, surrounded by a life you spent decades building together.

Every marriage has hard seasons. Every marriage will require sacrifice, forgiveness, humility and a whole lot of grace. But those are just chapters. It’s not the whole story.

I wonder how many couples in the middle of their struggles, ever stop to consider what they’re actually walking away from…
sitting side by side at their graduation, sitting together at their wedding, sitting in the waiting room holding hands, waiting on your grandchildren to be born.

It’s not just about the years you’ve already spent together. Think about the years you haven’t lived together yet.

There’s something incredibly beautiful about growing old with the person who knows the whole story and they love them just as much as you do!

You may miss snuggled up on the couch making piggy sounds.🤍

One day, you’ll stand where I’m standing, watching a generation that will live with the fruit of the decisions you’re making today.

So fight for what matters. Be faithful with what’s in front of you. Don’t trade what matters most for what feels good.

Never forget about the legacy you’re living for. 🤍

What an incredible weekend of feeling so much love. My 40th isn’t for a few more weeks but due to crazy schedules, some of the most important people in my life weren’t going to be able to make it to celebrate. I was of course understanding but so sad!

All I had on my agenda for this long weekend was relaxing after a busy few months at work. Little did I know that I was going to walk into my kitchen with them standing there all the way from Alabama. I was shocked! It’s been so great to just spend time together.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the next night I walked into another room full of people I love. My nervous system is surprised out 😂

But truly, I’m so grateful to @kylenjonesy for all of the care and intention he puts into everything he does for me. He loves and serves so well, and my heart is really grateful after this weekend.

Ladies, can your husband tell you the truth without paying for it later? 👀

We talk a lot about men needing to lead, communicate, and speak up in their marriages.

But what happens when he actually does?

When he brings up something difficult, challenges your perspective, or lovingly corrects you, how do you respond?

Do you listen? Or do you immediately defend yourself, get offended, shut down, or turn the conversation back on him?

You can’t ask your husband to lead and then punish him every time he says something you don’t want to hear.

And this isn’t about a husband always being right. It’s about creating a marriage where both people can speak truth, receive correction, and take responsibility without every difficult conversation becoming a battle.

A healthy marriage requires more than honesty.

It requires the humility to receive it.

🎙️ IV + Bené are talking about it this week on the House of Legacy Podcast.

Almost 20 years ago, a church was planted by young believers with a lot of faith, passion and a lot to learn.

We made MANY mistakes. But also saw miracles. We watched God change lives.

At one point, there were 7 campuses and thousands of people coming through the doors. For a long time, bigger felt like better.

I loved the moving lights. I loved dreaming about how to make Christmas and Easter bigger.

We wanted to reach as many people as possible! We followed church planting models, learned from great leaders and tried to build what we thought church was supposed to look like.

But several years ago, God began deeply convicting us.

We looked around and realized we didn’t love everything we saw.

So we started stripping things away. We took everything off the stage and started asking, “God, how do we make Your church healthier?”

Since 2021, our focus has been simple.

Worship. The Word. Discipleship.

Today the church is SO much smaller and we have never been more grateful for its health.

Our stage is blacked out. We preach from the floor. Nothing grand, it’s really intimate and beautiful.

As we grow closer to the end of a 5-year succession plan, handing BC to our son, December 2027, l am so incredibly proud and proud of my husband’s leadership.

He isn’t trying to hand Josh the biggest church. He desires to hand him the healthiest church.

In 2007 our church was planted with the name Epic, larger than life. We changed the name a few years ago because that didn’t describe what matters.

If I could go back and talk to those young church planters, I’d tell them, don’t be so easily impressed by crowds. Disciple people. And side note, you can’t disciple people you don’t know.

Don’t confuse crowds with heath.

Don’t measure God’s pleasure by attendance.

Don’t let excellence become performance.

Worship Him. Preach the Word. Disciple people.

And never be afraid to tear down something when God is asking you to build it differently.

I don’t regret our story. God used every season of it.

But almost 20 years later, I’ve humbly learned, less looks a whole lot more like the heart of Jesus.

Little voices, little hands and a house full of love. 🤍

Stay focused on what you’re building together. The years go faster than you realize and one day you’ll look over at each other and realize, you made it to the grandparent years together.

That’s worth fighting for. Think legacy.

This afternoon, the sun was setting and we were swinging our grandbabies and all I could think about is how special this is.

Life will gladly fill every minute we give it. There will always be another email to answer, another errand to run, another room to clean, another thing that feels urgent.

But some of the sweetest things in life will never scream for our attention. They’ll just quietly pass us by if we’re not careful.

I’d like to ask you a question…

What could you cut, cancel, turn off, or say no to so you can say yes to the people who matter most?

Put the phone down. Leave something unfinished. Sit on the porch. Push the swing. Watch the sunset.

You can get a lot of things back but you don’t get this season back. Enjoy the sunsets and make memories!

Why can your spouse hurt you more deeply than anyone else?

Because marriage requires vulnerability and the person who knows your heart best also knows where it hurts.

But when we feel hurt, our ego can quickly become our internal defense attorney, building a case for why we’re right and our spouse is wrong. That’s when our unhealthy defaults begin to take over.

In Episode 14, “Defaults,” IV and Bené discuss what happens when we choose the same self-control at home that we practice everywhere else. Honor has to remain the standard even when we’re hurt, angry, or misunderstood.

Episode 14 is available now on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
