@leeuwinestate is “one of the founding wineries in the Margaret River region”. Its Art Series Chardonnay is a benchmark acclaimed worldwide. We celebrated 40 years of friendship with a 4-course seasonal menu in their private dining room boasting spectacular views of the verdant grounds. The wine pairing included 2023 Leeuwin Estate Brut, 2025 Art Series Riesling, 2023 Art Series Chard, and 2022 Art Series Cab Sauv.

A memorable meal for the ages.

It was meant to be a low-key evening to bid farewell to @park90winelounge before its move to new digs. Instead, it turned out to be a celebration of sorts with some stunning bottles. My WOTN was the Gaia. Grateful for the overflowing generosity. Marvelous memories.

Commemorating trip 3 of 2026 (way back in March). Do you know that there's a @riedel_official branded wine bar in sultry #Bangkok? They have a pretty decent selection of wine by glass. And if you're lucky, there's live lounge music on some nights. Located in the heart of the main shopping district, this is the perfect place ro unwind after a hectic day of too much retail therapy.

'19 Kongsgaard Chardonnay:
Almost pronounced aromas of ripe pineapple, apricot, vanilla, oak. Creamy mouth feel lined with unmistakable wood. Flavours congruent with nose, but more minerals. Mid+ body & acids. High alcohol.

'07 @copainwines Wentzel Pinot Noir: Medium nose of dried raspberry, just dried rose petal. Above average body & acids. Fine, ripe tannins. Pronounced palate of sour red cherry, earl grey tea, toast.

'88 @chateaupapeclement: Faded glory. Past prime but still utterly enjoyable. Surprisingly still developing with blackcurrant present. Graphite, cracked leather, potpourri, dried Italian herbs, earthy mushroom. Medium- acids and tannins. Latter slippery. Overall rounded on the palate. Intensity & finish diminished. Yet still feels special.

'98 Ch. Certan de May: In its perfect drinking window. Developing still. Dark plum & cherry, violet, subtle oak. So juicy & savoury at the same time. Everything in harmony. Feels fresh, fluid with medium acids. Tannins very polished. Structure is there without demanding your attention.

Commemorating trip no. 2 of 2026. Family road trip up north to Kuala Lumpur. Discovered a wonderful "new" hotel:
1. Conveniently smack in the heart of the shopping district.
2. Easy access via car from 2 different approaches.
3. Attentive service.
4. Very good F&B selection at the club lounge, including free-flow wine.
5. Well appointed rooms with creature comforts that matter.

Following the earlier late post, here's another from the same session. Thought Christmas would be a good occasion to try this domaine. Drink this now if you long for something fruit-forward; will surely improve with age.

'17 @domainedesperdrix Echezeaux Grand Cru: Dramatically unfurling its wings in the red spectrum (cranberry, strawberry). Then black fruits (cherry, plum). Minor tertiaries (mushroom) take over the tease. Body seems to be on the lighter side (likely because the Talbot preceded), largely in part by feathery tannins & lively acid flutter. Would like to see more power, greater persistence (again, unfairly compared with the claret). Hopefully the remaining bottles will perform better.
