'22 @domaine_verset_a_et_e Viognier: Aromas of yellow / stone fruit, sunned rock, lily. Phenolic mouth feel, with salient yuzu peel, minerals. Medium acids.

'10 @chateaurayas Pignan Reserve: First time trying this deuxieme vin, which is by no means second best. Cherry + plum nose, eventually blooming into rose + charcuterie. Thick, firm tannins need time to tame astringency. Prominent oak. Average acids. Takes an hour to reveal CDP nature.

'97 @penfolds Grange: With sufficient age, the best Bordeaux-like improvisation from a Syrah / Shiraz out there, IMHO. This was sleek with dark fruits, bramble, potpourri, black tea, earthy oak, cigar ash. Gentlemanly tannins but still meaning business. A lovely bottle from IC to celebrate a milestone.

#SuperTuscan showdown.

2011 Solaia. My favourite of the trio with multi-layered richness. Blackberry, blueberry, bramble, coffee bean. Ever evolving, it then takes on a red tone. Sleeker nose + fresher palate than the Ornellaia; but its dense tannins are seemingly less ripe.

2015 Sassicaia. The least punchy of the lot. Feels too "safe". Blueberry compote + red / black cherry nose. Body seems lighter than the others. What appeals are round, soft tannins tied to moderate acids. Coffee bean, toast, blackberry in the mouth.

2016 Ornellaia. Unsurprisingly the youngest is the most primary. Imagine cheerful red fruits, cherry, plum, rose, milk chocolate, fresh tobacco leaf, puer tea. Tannins as thick as the Solaia, but seem lusher. Could do with brisker acids.

A highlight in #Reims was the private tour at @champagnetaittinger. Deep in history, the caves were a chalk quarry in the 4th century, subsequently converted to monastic uses, and became a refuge during WW I. Topping the insightful tour was tasting in the private lounge.

My new favourite casual diner is @pecorino_hk. Located in Sheung Wan, it oozes a laid-back, modern interpretation of la dolce vita. Dishes taste just as stunning as they look.
