A trans-led decarceration project, working alongside criminalised trans & gender diverse people across Victoria located at @flatout.inc 🏳️‍⚧️
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Each month the Incarcerated Trans and Gender Diverse Fund assists over 50 TGD people currently in prison across so called “Australia” with prison account payments.

We send at minimum $100 up to $140 to our community in solitary confinement conditions. To sustain this support, $5000 of donations is needed per month.

As a committee of TGD people we undertake this support as volunteers, with the backing of community donations.

We navigate the complexities of each state jurisdiction, often requiring permission for every individual to receive payments from the authorities that be at each prison.

We do this because we know how critical this support is.

We know these payments are the difference between our community inside being able to make a phone call, write a letter, buy a razor, a bra, underwear or simply some bickies for their tea.

It may not get someone out of prison right now, but it can be the difference between getting thru another day inside and surviving to make it back out.

We have also provided post-release payments, to support TGD people to rebuild their life after prison. However, the ITGD fund is currently too low to continue these payments right now and also maintain assistance to our community still inside.

We are calling on community to become monthly donors - no matter how small, to maintain this life-saving support inside and restart support for TGD community returning home. Please share, please donate and lets keep building the world we all need together.

Donations to the Incarcerated Trans and Gender Diverse Fund be made directly to our Bank Australia Community Account:

Thank you for backing BBB this @giveoutday_au 🏳️‍⚧️❤️🔥

At a time when the rights and identities
of incarcerated trans and gender diverse
people are under attack, community solidarity and care is needed now more
than ever.

As a project founded in abolition we believe all people deserve care and support.
When we centre those most marginalised and targeted by carceral systems, we build the conditions for everyone to thrive. Community care, justice and solidarity are fundamental to all aspects of our work.

The reality is prisons are one of the most rigidly binary systems within our society. This makes them inherently violent for our community. The vast majority of trans people in prison are trans women, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sistergirls and gender diverse people disproportionately imprisoned due to targeted policing, systemic racism, and transmisogyny.

Across so-called Australia, trans women are still placed in men’s prisons, a site of violence. Many are survivors of sexual and physical violence as a direct result of placement within the men’s system. For the very few allowed in women’s prisons, solitary confinement remains routine, a practice internationally recognised as torture. We have witnessed this firsthand for far too many trans women.

We stand in unwavering solidarity with all criminalised and incarcerated trans and gender diverse people. We reject transphobic attacks like those made by NT Chief Minister Finocchiaro, and all politics that weaponise our lives for power.

Trans women are women. Trans identities are not up for debate. We will not allow criminalised and incarcerated people to be dehumanised and used for political point scoring.

Just over 5 hours left to get behind @giveoutday_au 2026! We are so incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated and shared BBB’s campaign. Your support is literally life-saving and is vital to ensuring that trans and gender diverse people inside and outside of prisons have access to immediate resources, social connection and care.

In the last 24 hours alone we have drawn on donations like yours to purchase art supplies for a trans woman in solitary confinement and cover the cost of emergency accommodation for another trans woman to secure bail out of a mens prison.

We cannot and do not do this work alone. It really does take a community 🫶🏳️‍⚧️❤️

Please keep sharing, donate if you can and check out the many other amazing campaigns running ✨ link in our bio ✨ by @beyondbricksbars

🔥 Support Beyond Bricks & Bars this GiveOUT Day!

This Thursday 15 October, every donation up to $1,750 will be matched and doubled. Your $20 becomes $40! 🔥

For 8 years, BBB has fought alongside incarcerated and formerly incarcerated trans and gender diverse (TGD) people for safety, healthcare, dignity and freedom from violence.

In the past 12 months, we've supported 79 TGD people - 50 women, 25 nonbinary people and 4 men. 30% are Aboriginal TGD people, reflecting the ongoing intersection of racism, transphobia and criminalisation.

Currently, 39 people are inside prisons across Victoria and NSW, receiving ongoing support, counselling, advocacy and connection to community.

Right now in Victoria, 99% of trans women in custody are placed in men's prisons, facing daily risks of sexual, physical and psychological violence and harm. In the past 18 months, no trans women have been permitted to enter the women's prison system.

We will continue to fight until all our community are free from harm.

BBB's support doesn't end at the prison gates. We currently support 40 people in the community, including 29 people supported to leave prison and stay out, and 11 supported to remain in the community, preventing incarceration.

✨ Your GiveOUT Day donation will help fund:

💘 Peer Support Group: A fortnightly, peer-led space for formerly incarcerated TGD people to build connection, share knowledge and reduce isolation.

💘 Prison Counselling: Free, confidential, gender-affirming counselling. Since August 2025, over 40 TGD people have accessed this vital support.

💘 Emergency Brokerage: Crisis accommodation, gender-affirming clothing, food, medication, safe transport, phone credit and resources for people inside and outside prison..

Every donation enables BBB to continue and build our life-saving project.

Connection is vital to safety and survival. Even in the darkest times, it is what makes joy, laughter, celebration and collective care possible.

Incarceration by design disconnects and isolates, both physically and mentally. For many people we support this isolation doesn’t end at the prison gates.

We also know for trans people, experiences of isolation and disconnection from family and community remain common - without the added systemic barriers, social judgement, and direct experiences of marginalisation and exclusion that criminalisation creates.

This is exactly why we recently kicked off a drop-in support group, run by and for formerly incarcerated trans community.

The group runs fortnightly, creating a safe, welcoming space for BBB community to have a cuppa, share knowledge, experiences and skills, get advice, access support, and build connections together.

Today was extra special, celebrating Stacey’s freedom from parole! ⛓️‍💥🏳️‍⚧️❤️

Stace is one of BBB’s founding members, sits on our Expert Advisory Network and is a peer facilitator - not to mention the million and one other writing and advocacy projects she undertakes!

We celebrated together with a beautiful cake handmade by Harrie - and yes, we really do think ALL cats are beautiful 😻

The creation of this group has been made possible through grant funding from @vicwomenstrust and ongoing community donations. The generous support of @transgendervic offering us an accessible, affirming space to gather. And @thefoodangelsmutualaid delicious meal deliveries 🙏🏼😇 by @beyondbricksbars

It’s been a big week of change in BBB as Jem hung their outreach hat up.

Jem jumped into the team in June 2024, bringing years of experience as a nurse supporting community using substances and harm reduction practices. Jem’s knowledge and expertise has up-skilled our whole team and kept so many of the TGD community we support out of prison. They have worked relentlessly with care and commitment to TGD community inside and out, paving crucial paths to increase support and find ways forward no matter the barriers.

We are so grateful to Jem and everything they have brought to BBB and the whole
