Project Bhalakushari recently shared findings from our 2025 qualitative interviews with our Community Advisory Board (CAB). The interviews explored social support among older adults in the ethnic Nepali Bhutanese community. Between April and July 2025, our team of Community Research Assistants interviewed 20 older adults aged 50 and above and 20 individuals who provide support and care to older adults aged 50 and above. Please read the article (language: Nepali| link in our bio) to learn more about how our meeting with the CAB went. We are excited to bring these findings to different corners of the community. If you’re interested in learning more about Project Bhalakushari, or if you have ideas and suggestions for how we can share these findings and bring this information to the community, please reach out, we’d love to hear from you! #bhalakusari #communityresearch #mentalhealthresearch #researchfindings #bhutanesecommunity by @bhalakushari

Project Bhalakushari is currently looking for 30 more community members aged 50 and above to participate in anonymous surveys exploring the psychosocial well-being of the Bhutanese community. This research collaboration between Lehigh University and our community partner, BCCPA, has sparked important conversations around dialogue, connection, and healing, while centering the voices and experiences of the often-overlooked “50 and above” generation within our community. Recently, we hosted a Sangini Saanjh, creating a space for older women in the community to come together, connect, and practice Sangini, a traditional form of music that is slowly fading away. Moments like these remind us of the importance of creating spaces where community members can share their stories, traditions, and experiences with one another. We invite you to be part of this journey, whether as a research participant or by supporting the project in another capacity. If you are interested in participating or learning more, please send us a message on our social media platforms or reach out to put224@lehigh.edu. Your voice, experiences, and participation matter ♥️ #nepalibhutanese #bhutanesecommunity #mentalhealth #olderadults #nepaliculture by @bhalakushari
Last Friday marked the final day for our Student RAs! Team Bhalakushari would like to thank each of them for their incredible contributions to our team. With their hard work and dedication, we were able to interview 71 additional dyads and connect with communities across Central PA through door-knocking. Beyond everything they contributed to the project, it was such a pleasure getting to know each of them and having the energy, laughter, and enthusiasm they brought into our office. Thank you for being such an important part of Team Bhalakushari. We appreciate you all and wish you the best in what comes next! 🤎 by @bhalakushari
Bhalakushari had a beautiful and meaningful Sangini Saanjh with intergenerational women in our community! 💜 At its heart, Bhalakushari is about creating space for meaningful connections, honoring the stories, wisdom, strength, and resilience of our older adults while building bridges across generations. Sangini (संगिनी) songs are traditional narrative folk songs of Nepal, sung by women and often reflecting themes of female friendship, personal sorrows, domestic struggles, and mythological tales. It was a special opportunity for ethnic-Nepali Bhutanese older women from Central Pennsylvania to share their Sangini songs, stories, and lived experiences with younger generations. Through music and storytelling, we celebrated our heritage, and strengthened community bonds. 🎶❤️ #Bhalakushari #SanginiSaanjh #IntergenerationalConnections #BhutaneseNepali by @bhalakushari
