Here are some quick, easy tips to help guide anyone visiting a community fridge in Buffalo this winter. Help us keep the fridges a safe, clean place for neighbors to take what they need and leave what they can — especially as the winter weather starts to come.

Spring is here and the fridges need restocking 🌱 We put together a summer shopping list of our most-needed items, plus a reminder of how to donate properly so we can keep operating smoothly.

Fresh food goes in the fridge. Canned and boxed goods go in the pantry. No dumping. Label and date your prepared meals. Want to get more involved? Visit our website for more resources, link in bio. by @bigherkfridge

We’re grateful for all the new volunteers ready to help keep Buffalo’s fridges running. As our network grows, remember: consistency is key. There are systems in place to keep every fridge safe, stocked, and sustainable.

If you’ve been to our Ferry fridge lately, you’ve seen it boarded up. After five years of service, repeated damage, and misuse, our hosts and team made the tough call to close the East Ferry Community Fridge. But the work doesn’t stop here. The fridge and shelter are moving to @buffalolovefridge this week and donations now support nearby fridge sites like Merriweather Library and the Resource Council of WNY.

There are 9 community fridges across Buffalo, all powered by neighbors like you. The need is high: if you meet someone at a fridge, encourage them to take what they need and leave some for others. We can’t always guarantee food will be in our fridges as it goes quick so small donations more often go a long way ❤️

@evcsbuffalo first grade students hosted a food drive last month! Their hard work will allow us to keep our pantries stocked for weeks to come! As an added bonus, peep the adorable, hand decorated bags they made to ease the lives of our patrons! Want to know how to get involved like they did? Find our Slack channel! (Details in our bios!) Thank you to these young leaders for their care and service!! by @bigherkfridge

Hey folks 👋 Many of you know about (and donate to) our collection box for the community fridge donation. From small change to $1, $2, $5 and $10 donations it all adds up and we were able to fill up the fridge with a portion of that money today! (We will be doing more shops with the remainder and continue to collect)! 💸

This is mutual aid, every penny makes a difference in helping our community, and community is what it is all about. 💁

🖤“We must use time creatively, in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right.”
- Dr. Martin Luther King Junior

✊🏾Freedom Wall - Michigan Avenue and East Ferry. Portraits of 28 notable civil rights leaders created by Buffalo-based artists: John Baker, Julia Bottoms, Chuck Tingley, and Edreys Wajed.

🖤In honor of MLK Day - we ask you to remember the unity and sense of community that Dr. King urged us to have for one another. Shop for and stock a @buffalocommunityfridge - we stopped by East Ferry and Jewett Fridges today and they were bare! Items were scooped up within minutes of our restock. Volunteer to help shop, stock, cook, or cleanup!

🥬🍎 Be sure to stop by Truly Rooted, a part of @rootedinlovewny and become a member or join classes on nutrition, growth, or wellness. This new storefront on Fillmore Avenue, in the heart of the East Side, was created to support our community with education and sustenance. They also help stock the Delevan Grider Community Center Fridge. We thank you for your love and support of our community!

If you’ve visited one of our fridges recently, you’ve probably noticed how quickly they can empty. We’re so grateful for the hard work of our volunteers, neighbors, and everyone pitching in to keep them running. 💪

During the holiday season, many are inspired to give back — and while we love that energy, we encourage you to keep it going all year long!

To help everything run smoothly, we’ve put together some tips and guidelines for donating and using the fridges. 🥦💛 taken in Buffalo Community Fridge by @bigherkfridge
