Big congratulations to @shandamdwrites! 🎉

Shanda started writing in Project Write Now's memoir classes, then joined book inc as a founding member and one of our Memoir Incubator PALs.

Now she’s featured in Poets & Writers’ “5 Over 50” in the November/December 2026 issue, the magazine’s eleventh annual celebration of debut authors age fifty and over.

Shanda is a family medicine physician and a native Philadelphian. She writes about where life, race, and medicine meet. Her memoir, "Brother Epistles: A Sister’s Memoir," is out now from Split/Lip Press.

We’ve been cheering her on from the start, and seeing her work recognized on a national stage means the world to our community.

Read her essay in the issue at www.pw.org.

There’s no deadline on becoming a writer. 🐙 Join our writing community at bookinc.org.

"How was the book launch?" 📚

Two and a half months after pub day, @lizjannuzzi says the answer isn't past tense. In the latest Inside Scoop, Liz gets real about the roller coaster of launching her debut memoir, SOBER MOM: glowing reader texts, stalled Amazon reviews, the dreaded Canva Vortex, and the moment she realized she's officially part of the writing world.

Meet the Peer Artist Leaders for our 2027 Novel Incubator! ✍️

@kaeceymccormick, poet, fiction writer, and former Poet Laureate of Cupertino, finished her first full novel draft in Novel Incubator in 2025. Now she's querying book one, revising book two, and starting book three alongside our new cohort in January.

@emayeskelley, a former newspaper reporter turned fiction writer, is ready to draft a time-travel thriller born over a slice of pizza and a blast of '90s rock.

On the journal, they talk about why fiction draws them, how they keep momentum over a yearlong project, and what they do when they hit the wall (hiking, journaling, and yes, the shower).

Have a novel idea you're ready to see all the way to a first draft? Join us. Applications for 2027 programs are open now.

In our latest Journal post, book inc writer @ebrit7 gets honest about the tension every memoirist faces: how you order your story shapes what you include, and what you include shapes how you order your story. No easy answers, just the real, messy work of drafting.

Thinking about writing your own memoir in a year? Applications for the 2027 Book Incubators are open now.

✍️ New Ask Tina: How to Avoid Burnout

You give your best creative energy to other writers—teaching, critiquing, cheering them through the hard parts. Then you sit down for your own manuscript, and there's nothing left.

This week, @tgood427 shares how to protect your own writing practice without pulling away from the community you love: dedicated time, a space that's yours alone, and untangling resentment from boundaries.

📖 Read the full column at bookinc.org.

Have your own writing-related dilemma? Send it to asktina@projectwritenow.org—selected questions may be featured in an upcoming column.
