Workshop - SKIN CLIMATE ACTION (DARMSTADT SCHOOL) with Johanna Schmeisser, Bastian Feltgen and Johanna Meyer Working within a building ruin, Skin Climate Action treats spatial transformation as an act of care: clearing, cleaning and repairing floor openings to make an abandoned room usable again. The workshop developed a climate installation using only diffusion-open materials — lime, water, linseed oil and soap as an emulsifier. A second skin of lime-impregnated linen shields the space from UV radiation, while openable window panels preserve cross-ventilation and allow the room to cool at night. An earth-pigmented floor grounds the installation. Existing windows and columns are emphasized through fabric openings, paint and shelf-like ledges. The space was built collectively, by hand, with knowledge shared through labour and making. Johanna Schmeisser is an architect based in Hamburg, Germany, educated at RWTH Aachen and HCU Hamburg. She works at TU Darmstadt’s Chair for Design and Spatial Concepts, focusing on design-build practice and climate-adaptive design that integrates nature as a spatial experience. Bastian Feltgen and @meyergrohbruegge collaborate within the Darmstadt School context, contributing to the workshop’s approach to design-build practice, climate adaptation and spatial transformation. Workshop - MORE-THAN-HUMAN AUDIO WORLDS with Maja Avnat (Matters of Activity) The audio pieces of More-Than-Human Audio Worlds document, interpret and expand the experience of the makers at this summer campus. They invite listeners to explore soundscapes recorded across the Bosco Colto campus in 2026, encouraging a closer attention to sensory perception and imagination. The pieces engage with this year’s focus on learning from animals while extending attention to other non-human realms, including vegetation and geology. Through sound, the workshop explores the relationships between human and more-than-human activity, making different forms of presence perceptible. Visitors can find QR codes around the campus and scan them to listen to each piece at its dedicated location, connecting the sounds they hear with the human and non-human activity taking place there. Maja Avnat is a researcher and artist exploring more-than-human landscapes and material entanglements through cultural studies, design research, and auditory and installation-based artistic practices. She is an associate member of the Cluster of Excellence Matters of Activity as a junior researcher and was a lecturer at the Department of Textile and Material Design at the Weißensee School of Art, Berlin. Radio Bosco Colto 2026 Ep.8 - Attention au chien What if we looked at Santo Pietro through the eyes of its four-legged residents? From streets and paths to the spaces around our homes, dogs are a constant presence, with their own ways of communicating, building relationships and inhabiting the territory. In this episode, the tutors and participants of the workshop invite us into their world, exploring what it means to share a place and a community with other species. An episode in English, French and Italian, featuring a short bonus interview with @boscolocco .l Special thanks to @nicolasdepoutot @arthrprt and @adele_so and to all the workshop participants. Workshop – ATTENTION AU CHIEN (Nancy School) with Nicolas Depoutot, Arthur Poiret and Adèle Sorge Attention au chien explores interspecies relationships through the presence of dogs in Santo Pietro. Across Sicily, stray dogs share spaces and everyday life with local communities, sometimes in positive ways, sometimes in more challenging ones. Through practice-based, sensory and artistic research, participants explored the place dogs occupy in Santo Pietro, both in reality and in the collective imagination, questioning ideas of territory, awareness and coexistence, with site-specific installations as a possible outcome. Nicolas Depoutot is an architect and faculty member at ENSA Nancy, working between architectural creativity, education and built practice. This year he collaborates with tout terrain, a cooperative with a social and ecological approach to architecture and urban planning, together with Arthur Poiret and Adèle Sorge. In Santo Pietro, their work focuses on co-design and on the dialogue between project imaginaries, local territories and concrete interventions. Radio Bosco Colto 2026 Ep.7 - The Ancient Order of the Oaks of Santo Pietro In this episode, we explore the workshop dedicated to the Ancient Order of the Oaks of Santo Pietro, a research project by Fabio Ciaravella investigating the possibility of a hidden order within the woods, believed to date back over a thousand years. Through oral histories, historical documents, walks and mapping, the research traces possible connections between the woods and the city of Caltagirone, exploring the layers and interweaving of local culture across past and present. A journey through history, hypotheses and collective memory, uncovering the stories held within the landscape. Special thanks to @fabiociaravella , Liliana Adamo and to all the workshop participants. Workshop - THE STUDY OF THE ANCIENT ORDER OF THE OAKS OF SANTO PIETRO with Fabio Ciaravella The Study of the Ancient Order of the Oaks of Santo Pietro investigates the deep relationship between the Wood and the communities living around it, with a particular focus on Caltagirone. The project looks at the network of relationships connecting the Santo Pietro ecosystem with the town’s social and cultural life, bringing to light traces of an ancient power group that may have played a role in the foundation of the Wood. By revisiting history through the layers of collective knowledge — both living and forgotten — the study reveals the forest and the town not as separate entities, but as parts of a complementary relationship. The project proposes this relationship as a possible model for imagining new forms of interspecies coexistence, where human communities and ecosystems are understood as interconnected and mutually shaping. Fabio Ciaravella works at the intersection of architecture, art and sociology. He was a fellow at ACT at MIT in Boston and is co-founder of the art collective Studio ++. He leads Architecture of Shame, a project exploring the relationship between architecture and shame in Europe. He teaches at the University of Florence, ABADIR Academy in Catania, and within the interdisciplinary master Futuro Vegetale, where he leads the course Social Innovation and Public Art. Radio Bosco Colto 2026 Ep.6 - Observatories In this episode, we explore the Observatories workshop, born from the desire to find new ways of listening to and perceiving the Santo Pietro Woods. Nine sensors, installed across nine different landscapes within the woods, collect data on sound, humidity and temperature, creating an open network that gives the woods a voice — or rather, a whisper — even when no one is there to listen. A project that invites us to imagine a form of discreet and shared listening between the community and the territory. A story told through different perspectives, experiences and languages: English, Italian, Mandarin and Basque. Special thanks to @munduate , @jasaski_ , @varshalaiand, @foodhacklab @sophieprivit and to all the workshop participants. Listen to the full episode on YouTube and Spotify. Workshop - OBSERVATORIES with Food Hack Lab Andoni Munduate Dorronsoro, Jon Aldalur Soto and Varsha Lai @foodhacklab Observatories begins with a simple question: if a tree falls in a forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? The project brings this question into the forests of Bosco di Santo Pietro and Sughereta di Niscemi, where nine “witnesses” inhabit nine different sites. Made from cork and 3D-printed PETG, they collect data on temperature, humidity and ambient sound through a network of sensors. The data travels in small packets through a LoRa network — almost like whispers moving from one place to another — creating new ways of observing and listening to the forest. Rather than speaking on behalf of the forest, Observatories proposes a quiet, shared form of listening: a network that observes, collects and makes visible what is happening around it. Food Hack Lab is a non-profit organisation founded in the Basque Country in 2015. It explores the relationship between technology, food systems and local knowledge through workshops, research and collaborative projects. Radio Bosco Colto 2026 Ep.5 - Sicilian Satoyama In this episode, we explore the Sicilian Satoyama workshop through the voices of its participants and tutor Yoshiharu Tsukamoto. The term “Satoyama” refers to a traditional Japanese agricultural landscape, where fields, forests and communities coexist in balance and evolve over time. The workshop takes this concept as a starting point to explore how it can be reinterpreted within the Sicilian landscape. On the western side of Villa in Santo Pietro, the Zucca Gazebo is one of the first examples of this research. A starting point for imagining a possible future for Sicilian Satoyama. A story told through different perspectives, experiences and languages: English, Italian, German, French and, of course, Japanese. A special thanks to @tsukamotoyoshiharu and to all the participants of the workshop. Listen to the full episode on YouTube and Spotify. Edited by: @giulio_domina and @salvatore.pel by @boscocolto
Workshop - SICILIAN SATOYAMA with Yoshiharu Tsukamoto (Atelier Bow-Wow) On the west side of the villa, an abandoned farm enclosed by old stone walls becomes the starting point for imagining a Sicilian Satoyama: a landscape where a vegetable garden, an olive grove and architecture coexist, reconnecting local resources and the elements already present on the land. Through close observation of the site, the workshop explored how small interventions could reveal new possibilities for this future landscape. Zucca Gazebo crosses the existing stone wall, creating a new viewpoint over the surrounding landscape. An octagonal platform, supported by eight chestnut columns and covered by a colourful tent, offers a place to pause and look out across the territory. Further down the slope, Mulberry Canopy works with an existing shaded grove, transforming it into a cool resting place through careful pruning and dry-stone terraces. Two approaches — one through addition, the other through subtraction — reframe the landscape without erasing what is already there, bringing its existing elements into a new relationship. Yoshiharu Tsukamoto Born in Kanagawa in 1965, he co-founded Atelier Bow-Wow with Momoyo Kaijima in 1992. He is a professor at the Institute of Science Tokyo, formerly the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and directs the Small Earth association. His practice spans architecture and public space, furniture design, field research, education and curation, and is grounded in “Behaviorology” — an approach that aims to rebuild the commons by improving access to local resources. He was awarded the Wolf Prize in Architecture in 2022. Bosco Colto Campus is one of the 53 Creativity Pioneers 2026 We’re pleased to share that Bosco Colto has been selected as part of the 2026 #CreativityPioneersFund cohort by @moleskinefoundation . We join 52 other creative and cultural organisations from 28 countries, and an existing community of 201 #CreativityPioneers using creativity as a force for social change. The Creativity Pioneers Fund supports independent, non-profit organisations across the world, recognising that imagination, culture and collective practices are not an accessory to social change, but one of its driving forces. From today, we are part of a network of Pioneers active across six continents. For us, this is a source of great pride and deep satisfaction. Bosco Colto was born and grows in the Bosco di Santo Pietro as an experiment in situated learning, shared construction and care for a territory: a project that exists only because so many people have chosen to walk through it and look after it with us. So our first thought goes to everyone who has accompanied us along the way: the tutors, the participants of every edition, our partners, the institutions, the associations and the local communities that opened their doors to us, and all the people who have worked, cooked, built, talked and walked with us in the woods. It’s thanks to you and to this community that today we get to celebrate this milestone. We can’t wait to join the global network of Creativity Pioneers, to share experiences, encounter other practices and keep learning together #CreativityPioneers #CreativityPioneersFund by @boscocolto
