Introducing College Farm.

A new rural studio and production location by @box9design in East Sussex.

College Farm began with an existing agricultural barn + vintage fire engine workshop and a simple idea: rather than build something new, could we take the scale and character already there and completely reimagine what happened within it?

The result is a 230 sqm contemporary space built around volume, texture and light.

At its centre is a six-metre-high clay-lined room, surrounded by smoky oak, raw + burnished steel, natural timber + quieter, more intimate spaces.

Outside, a pool, Mortex and rich timber sauna, terrace, open barn and three-quarters of an acre of landscape extend the location into the surrounding countryside.

It has become several things at once. A rural studio for BOX 9,
a place to gather, make and think. And now, a location available for stills, motion + editorial production.

It's the changing light and quietness of the space that we keep coming back to. There’s an energy to the place that is difficult to capture in photographs alone and we can’t wait to share more of it.

Behind the quieter architecture is proper production infrastructure: 63A three-phase power, acoustic insulation, full-site Wi-Fi, vehicle access and production support spaces - all considered as part of the project rather than added afterwards.
Blackout can also be arranged on request.

Full location, production information and drawings via the College Farm website.

So happy to see @pennybunilkley named AA Inn of the Year – England 2025/26.

@aa_hospitality

This was such a special project for us, and the beginning of our work with Denton Reserve. We loved being part of bringing this little Yorkshire inn back to life, with so much care for its history, its materials and the landscape around it.

A huge congratulations to the brilliant team at The Penny Bun - so well deserved.

We’re entering our final eight weeks on site with @caravanrestaurants

One of our most ambitious and sustainable builds yet, the space is beginning to unfold through two vast oak arches in a palette of wheat, dusty yellow clay + deep, smoky bracken.

Some of our hero materials - reeded cork + solid wool - sit alongside innovations in coffee waste, earth-based finishes + clay strocks.

The space is vast, but the makers behind it are small-scale innovators with huge ideas.

With views across the London Eye + Royal Festival Hall - and directly into the Hayward Gallery from the Hayward dining room - it already feels incredibly special.

We’re hugely grateful to Caravan + the @southbankcentre for backing our vision: to create an extraordinary + inclusive space with a lighter environmental impact.

Eight weeks to go.

Introducing our new rural studio.

We’ve been quietly creating a new home for BOX 9 in the East Sussex countryside - a reimagined workshop + barn designed as a place to step away from the noise of the city and come together.

As our team and projects have grown, so too has the way we want to work. You’ll still find us stomping around London in steel toe cap boots, out on site or tucked away in our East London studio - but now, occasionally, you’ll find us here too.

A place for our team, our makers + collaborators. For focused design sessions, long conversations, a canvas for shoots, gatherings + space to think.

Contemporary, natural + filled with soft rural light.

All our values, wrapped up in one space.

Soon, we’ll be opening the doors a little wider and sharing it with others too.

For now, a first glimpse.

More soon. If you’re interested in using the space, do drop us a message ahead of the wider launch. taken in East Sussex by @box9design

As one project reaches completion and another begins to take shape on site, we’re taking a moment to return to our roots.

Much of our work begins here - in the organic forms, tactile textures + quiet details we notice when we’re outside.

A collection of recent observations, already beginning to shape new concepts. by @box9design

We can finally share a first look at something we’ve been quietly and intently working on.

Introducing @kid_soho a new Soho restaurant from @sertacdirik + @david.carter.uk

Having worked with David for over a decade across SMOKESTAK, MANTECA, OMA + AGORA, KID feels like one of our most ambitious collaborations to date.

A project rooted in trust, shared instinct and a deep understanding of restaurants as living systems: of flow - fire, kitchens + choreography, atmosphere + detail.

A concept held tightly from the first gesture to the last.

Set within a Victorian corner building on Frith Street, KID is grounded in the historic fabric of Soho and shaped by the craft, ritual + generosity of Sertaç’s Turkish heritage.

The project has been shaped through a full architectural intervention: joining two former units, reshaping the shopfronts, working with waste brick @kenoteq as a defining structural + atmospheric material. Building a world from the food, the site, the makers + the many hands involved.

It is also a project built with arguably our most sustainable palette yet: one focused on resource conservation, using less virgin material and drawing largely from waste brick, waste fabrics and post-consumer card, all articulated with precision + care.

Crucially, it is also one of our most robust palettes. A material language designed not only to reduce impact at the point of making, but to age beautifully under the intensity of a fast-paced restaurant - reducing the need to repair, replace or strip out.

The whole lifetime has been considered: can this palette outlive the cycle of full strip-out + skip so often associated with restaurant projects?

For us, the design sits in the tension between architectural rigour and organic craft: how the considered coursing of the brick canvas and its tight structural rhythm meets the softer handmade, Anatolian gestures.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more of the process behind KID - from the build to the material stories, collaborators, details + decisions that have shaped the space. taken in Soho, London UK by @box9design

The objects we bring into a space are often small, but their role is far from insignificant.

After the architecture, the layout, the structural rhythm and the larger gestures of material + light, come the pieces that meet the hand: the bowl, the lamp, the vessel, the textile, the chair, the table.

The quiet object placed exactly where it belongs.

Before they find their final home, these pieces are gathered together, unpacked, laid out and considered side by side.

A quiet moment of looking, balancing and listening - understanding what each object brings, and where it belongs.

We source slowly + carefully, looking for pieces with texture, tone and tale.

Objects made by people who understand material. Objects that carry craft, usefulness + atmosphere.

Our work is holistic, from the earliest spatial thinking through to these final details.

Because we believe the smallest object can change the way a person pauses, reaches, sits, looks + remembers. by @box9design

Thank you to @thetimesluxury and @thetimes for featuring Denton Hall in LUXX this weekend.

A project that continues to gather such thoughtful recognition, and one we are incredibly grateful to have helped shape.

We especially loved Lucy Siegle’s description of the interiors as having a ''monastic elegance'

Thank you for seeing the intention behind the work and to @sarahward for endlessly championing us.

Here we are - very early on at one of our latest projects on the iconic South Bank.

A place with real cultural weight - and with that comes a responsibility we don’t take lightly.

How do we honour what came before while creating something beautiful, more inclusive, more accessible, and more responsible for what comes next?

How do we tread lightly. Waste less?

Use natural resources and reclaimed by-products with greater intelligence and care?

How do we build in a way that restores, rather than simply consumes?

And where does that leave contemporary brutalism - not as a style, but as a way of working that values honesty, restraint, and material clarity? by @box9design

A rich tapestry

Rebuilding the interior of an existing structure - brick by brick, to millimetre precision.

On our current Soho project, every drawing began with the bricks themselves.

They are the structure, the finish + the form.

Each line accounts for the rhythm of coursing, the thickness of mortar joints, and the reality that even a 10mm adjustment can result in a cut brick - that must be placed with care + intention.

This process has meant months immersed in detail: studying traditional brick bonds, understanding historic techniques, + learning why bricks have been laid the way they have for generations.

It’s a discipline that demands patience, precision, and respect for the craft.

On site, that translates into hours spent working closely with our skilled contractors at @interiorsukltd setting out each wall with exacting accuracy and collaborating with our expert bricklayers @kcm.heritage whose knowledge continues to shape the project in invaluable ways.

What makes this project particularly special is its material honesty. Brick isn’t seen as a hidden substrate here - it's the focal point.

From arches and fireplaces to grills and wine cellars, every element celebrates the material and form.

Week by week, course by course, the building grows - as does our understanding. by @box9design
