Do you think Pancake likes their new @swiftpaws_official lure system?? She sure loves to cheat at this but at least she is having fun ! 😂 It’s so funny to think this is the same girly who was way more interested in sniffing than the lure when we went to a Fast Cat event! But now, any time we go outside she begs to play with it. I think she might be ready to give it another go! #swiftpaws #fastcat #fcat by @breakfast_service_pups

Ever since Donut started coming to work with me, I've made sure I spend time every day during my lunch break throwing a ball for her, playing with her, or taking her on a long sniff walk. You can't expect a dog to settle somewhere and constantly be on their best behavior AND be focused on medical alerts for 8 hours straight if you don't give them what they need first. They need to exercise, to play, to sniff, to decompress. If you can't make your service dog's needs a priority, you can't expect them to make your needs a priority. And for me, these are the little moments I'll cherish forever. It's always such a joy to spend time with my girl. ♡ by @breakfast_service_pups

It's so crazy the things that dogs can pick up on from being around each other! Pancake was in training to be my service dog for about a year, but once I got Donut, we decided to reshape Pancake's path towards being a therapy dog since she is such a snuggle bug so she can help others. She does have a little bit of a foundation in scent work from puppyhood and has always shown some natural tendencies when it came to my medical episodes, but she was never specifically trained to do scent detection alerts to my episodes like Donut was. This interaction was so funny to me, seeing how Pancake watched Donut fully do her job and then copied each step. May is EDS Awareness Month, and honestly it's been a frustrating few years of slowly understanding my limits, mourning what life used to be like, and accepting that my disabilities are worsening despite treatment and that it is very likely that in the future I will no longer be an ambulatory wheelchair user.

But this weekend I had the honor of celebrating my love @vanilla_overlord's birthday at @waltdisneyworld, and it was not only the first time I got to use my power chair at a theme park, but also the first time Donut got come with us! She was incredible, and we saw several other amazing teams. And while I experienced this park in a new way, I also couldn't help but to realize how much more I COULD experience with my power chair and service dog. And of course, with my amazing partner by my side. I used to have to leave Disney after a few hours at most, and this weekend I was actually able to spend most of the day with my loved ones. So yes, the past few years have been challenging - but they've also been the most incredible years of my life. I've gotten to experience the world in a new way. I've gotten to do things I love for longer. I've gotten to marry the love of my life. I've had the privilege of getting to know my heart dog and my soul dog. I've gotten to write incredible things for incredible places. I'm disabled, and it's really hard - but I'm so incredibly happy, and living a life I could've only dreamed of!
