🎓💚 Two days of research, reflection, and celebrating progress at SCoTENS!

This year’s conference theme, Exploring Diversity in Teacher Education, connected closely with my experiences as a woman of colour working in education, as well as with my research on creating more equitable educational spaces.

I was honoured to be selected to participate in the Doctoral Roundtable, a competitive opportunity for doctoral researchers to share their work and reflect on their research journeys. I spoke about my PhD research on multiracial belonging in Irish post-primary schools and some of the challenges I’ve faced along the way.

I also presented Teaching Beyond Inclusion: Anti-Racism and Critical Global Citizenship Education for Equitable Post-Primary Classrooms, exploring how we can move beyond inclusion towards transformative change that fosters lasting equity.

As a multiracial person researching belonging, this work is deeply personal to me. My experiences as a teacher and a woman of colour have shaped how I understand the importance of representation, belonging, and equity in education. Having the opportunity to share my research, connect with fellow researchers, and reflect on how far I’ve come was genuinely meaningful.

Sometimes, we get so caught up in how far we still have to go that we forget to celebrate our progress. This experience reminded me why I started this work and why it matters. 💚
