POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
So here’s the reality of being a non-Irish content creator discussing anything political/historical here. Briana is a PhD candidate at DCU that has been living in Ireland for 9 years, and she’s been with her now husband (who is Irish) almost 20 years, so she’s been around a while. I have been living here for 4 years and have a Masters in Communication. We know how to do research, we don’t just make this stuff up.

Briana ESPECIALLY gets a lot of hate on her content since she is a woman of color. She had an Irish man with 6 thousand followers call her the N-Word on TikTok, and her report (and mine) were both denied by the platform.

These comments/messages flood in whenever we speak about minorities in Ireland.

But unlike Ed Sheeran… we are dedicated to using our privilege and the platforms we have to highlighting voices and stories that haven’t been heard.

Most importantly, we are both parents raising our kids in this amazing country. And we want to insure that every child has the opportunity to grow up without being targeted by hate.

If these are the kind of comments and hate that we get, how do you think minorities that might not have our comfort level around public speaking might feel?

Why do people try to erase the achievements of minorities? I’ve had several messages since I started my LGBTQ+ reading challenge/fundraiser saying that LGBTQ+ Irish books aren’t “literature”, and even had this comment that minimized the efforts Roger Casement made towards Irish independence due to his sexuality. So I called in @brianafitzsimons , a PHD candidate at Dublin City University and Anti-Racism advocate to explain what erasure is. And sadly, it shows exactly why we need to keep reading/lifting minority voices from the past, present, and into the future.

Shame on the media. Shame on all who joined in on the hate campaign. My thoughts and prayers are with Jason’s family, friends and community. Another life lost far too soon 🕊️💔 #jasonarday
