Bri Chelser (2025 Neddy Open Medium Finallst) is a Seattle-based multidisciplinary artist integrating glass with mixed media to create dynamic, immersive installations.

Beyond her studio practice, Chesler is committed to art as a tool for healing. She mentors at-risk youth and is developing a mobile hot shop to bring glassmaking to underserved communities.

Join us TOMORROW—July 25th at 1pm in the Behnke Family Gallery—for an artist talk titled ‘Process and Progression: Art-making as Catharsis’💖

Featuring Neddy Finalists Bri Chesler, Sofya Belinskaya and Soo Hong, and moderated by Local Juror Natalia Torres—this talk will focus on ways in which artists engage with their practice as acts of catharsis, ritual and resilience.

The event is presented by the Neddy Artist Award program and supported in part by a grant from 4Culture. Learn more at the link in our bio! We hope to see you there!

In George Sosnak’s hands, the baseball becomes a record of devotion, connecting his love of the sport to its broader significance in American life. Looking at his work Pittsburgh Pirates (1978), I was struck by how vividly he captured the energy and excitement of the game. I don’t share his deep personal connection to the sport, so I wanted to discover how I could express that energy through making. Shaping molten glass with a baseball bat brought the physical gesture of the game into my sculpture. The challenge of using an unfamiliar tool in the hot shop invited a freedom and spontaneity to working with glass. It allowed me to lean into the intuitive nature of play while capturing its physical gesture within the form. The resulting glass pieces became a record of each physical strike that shaped the bubbles contour. The surfaces of my glass pieces are approached as a canvas, similar to how Sosnak treated the surface of a baseball. His illustrative language recalls the advertisements, signs, and handwritten inscriptions encountered in everyday life, offering familiar points of connection for viewers regardless of their experience with art. Although my sculptural forms may be abstract, I wanted their surfaces to retain some of that familiarity. By translating Sosnak’s representational imagery into patterned mark-making and deconstructed text, I attempted to preserve the informality and joy of his visual language.

Go view this work and many amazing other pieces in the Reflections in Glass show!

I’ve been working on something new and very different from my usual work for @westmorelandmuseum and @pghglasscenter! For this piece, I’ve tried to capture the spirit of artist George Sosnak and his love of baseball, bringing my own material language into the mix.
This is just one component of the piece. More of the process coming soon!

Nice feature @hyperallergic

Thank you!

Reposted @hyperallergic Seattle’s glass art festival returns in 2026 with a celebration of the people and places shaping our vibrant glass community. Now in its eighth year, the festival lands during a milestone moment: Seattle Glassblowing Studio marks 35 years, Pratt Fine Arts Center celebrates 50 years of creative education, and Chihuly Studio commemorates a meaningful return to Venice after three decades. These anniversaries highlight the legacy, innovation, and global impact of Seattle’s glass scene.

This year’s theme, “A Year of Celebration,” brings fresh energy to the programming. Expect art parties, live demos, special exhibits, and open studios that pull you directly into the action. From hot shop heat to behind-the-scenes access, the festival offers immersive ways to connect with artists and explore the craft.

Drawing from the wild and erotic character of the natural environment, Bri Chesler’s work reflects on cultural obsessions of beauty and their relationships to internal anatomies. By fusing similar elements found in biology and botany she creates forms that flirt with the audience, exploring ideas of intimacy and desire. Known for its nontraditional approach, her work combines a variety of glass techniques with other media.

Finally getting some time in the studio to finish all the bits and pieces that have been waiting for me. There’s something satisfying about returning to ideas with fresh eyes. Time to make new things from old ideas that have been quietly waiting to take shape. by @brichesler

I’m so excited to finally share this huge milestone with everyone. For the past few years, I’ve been writing grant applications to secure funding for a mobile hot shop outreach program that has lived in my head and heart for a very long time. Rather than purchasing a prebuilt system, I decided to build everything from the ground up so I could fully understand every component inside and out.
I’m incredibly lucky to have John Sharvin in my life as both a friend and collaborator. I’ve brought him on to design this setup and help fabricate the mobile unit, and honestly, I couldn’t imagine a better person to tackle a project of this scale alongside. This build is a massive undertaking for me, and his knowledge and problem-solving abilities have already become an invaluable part of the process.
This outreach program and mobile unit are just one facet of what Top Hat Glassworks plans to integrate into its educational initiatives. One of my favorite things about our studio/glassy fam is how different all of our skill sets are. When it comes time to make ambitious ideas happen, we each bring something unique to the table, and together we make the impossible feel achievable.
Sustainability is not always about what you can provide on your own. Sometimes it’s about how we support one another as a community.
I’ll share more soon about the specific outreach programs I’ve been developing, but for now… we are officially starting the build for the glory hole!!!!
