ARWC 2026

Really difficult to find the words for last week.
8 days of traversing the crystal clear Mediterranean waters to the highest peaks of Corsica.

Insanely brutal but oh so rewarding.
Beyond grateful for our team of 4 and how we kept moving when the going got tough and being present enough to enjoy all the moments in between.

@brundle3 never fading from the man we know him as. Happy, energetic and caring for those around him. Kept us on track and heading in the right direction with incredible focus. Not often your navigator becomes your packhorse, but that is exactly what he did and offered help to everyone when the going got tough.

@petrusmaree leading by example with his calm presence and strength. Also making sure we focused when we needed to and had a laugh when we didn’t need to. He also became our team doctor 👨‍⚕️

@georgia.grobler luckily still my fiance 😉. Showing us boys what it means to be resilient and strong even in the toughest of circumstances. Carrying all of her own gear plus team kit and still keeping the vibes high and making sure we don’t fall asleep on the move 🤣
On the last night our race nearly fell apart when Georgie fell horribly ill. She slept it out and somehow found the strength to not only continue but also to lead the way in the later stages of the last day.

Wouldn’t change a single thing in our prep and the race itself. Some highs will be near impossible to replicate but loved the simplistic way of focusing on basics with just the 4 of us.

Some stats:
- 187 hours / 7.8 days
- 647km
- 18673m gain
- 24h sleep total
- 22nd out of 100 teams provisionally
- 1st South African team

Incredibly grateful for @suzigiliomee making a surprise appearance and making sure to give us just the correct words of encouragement when we needed them most.

Thank you to everyone who followed along on the WhatsApp group, your support was felt every step of the way. As well as all the other South Africans out on course.

Cheers to new friends and memories that will last a lifetime.
Think I might leave my bike in its box for while now 🥱 taken in Corsica, France by @brundle3

The quiet culmination of an incredible journey! 🙌🏼

@raidinfrance (@arworldseries) was everything & more… and then some more… and then more!

I can’t quite fully comprehend where we went, what we did, what we “pulled off” &/or where we are headed.

But what I do know, is that @teamterramater rocked it - proud of us.
@georgia.grobler - powerhouse weapon, ever smiling. @ben_giliomee - reliable, stable problem solver. @petrusmaree - the wisdom, the calm & conservative leader!

It tested us on every level - a course that demanded everything of you (physically, mentally, socially) - that was special.

The route was unfathomably beautiful - from the riverbeds to the canyons to the high alpine peaks to the ocean paddles & everything in between.
Damn, this will make great stories for the grandkids one day! 😃

Thanks for all the support from all angles, we love & appreciate it. 🙏🏽

And the most massive thanks to my wife @volksvreemd - I looked to the sky in tears on the startline (& a few times during the race) knowing how much she has sacrificed for me to just be there. Thank you my love.

PS: Let us know if you’d like to have an online chat with the team about the race - a few people have requested it & we feel it would be cool to engage with all the people that we heard shouting at our dot! by @brundle3

My first (& only) flat lay!

Feel it was deserved for this one.
So I guess, this is what 6-8 days unsupported on the other end of the earth looks like (…at least)….

@raidinfrance with @teamterramater (@arworldseries)

Crazy to think this isn’t even close to all of it!

What a sport. What a privilege!

A beyond enormous thanks to the family, friends, supporters & sponsors 🙏🏽

It’s nearly real.

MEET THE TEAM - @brundle3 🕵️‍♂️

And finally, the legend himself, the team spirit, storyteller, the most genuine human you can wish to embark on an adventure with, and the navigator for the team!

1) What’s your role in the team?
To try keep us on the straight & narrow, and to ensure we have a jol whilst giving it horns!

2) What has been the most exciting/enjoyable part of the journey in the lead up?
Finding some much needed personal motivation to get sharp again, and as a result getting outside a lot more - with & without the teammates, family & friends. So many memories already. The learning of new skills (more to come) has been so awesome too!

3) What are you most looking forward to in Corsica?
Intimately exploring an island & area I knew nothing about. Learning how to packraft. Also, very excited to be racing again and see who we will be dicing.

4) Are you nervous, & what are you most nervous for?
Not really to be honest. Ready to go into the big fight. Oh wait… maybe my travel plans are the only things I am nervous for - my timeline is tight (race before the race).

5) What’s your superpower?
I’d like to believe it’s to always see the light & positive part in it all. And in emergency situations, that’s where I come into my own.

6) What else should we know about you &/or this journey? (Ideally something no one knows about you?)?
In summary, it’s been one of the toughest years with 2 kids, managing my own infant business, prepping for worlds - it’s been a wild ride but I am grateful for every step of the way.

No Frills. No Fuss. Swellendam 2026

I’ve had the absolute privilege (and I mean that in every sense of the word) to work with @brundle3 , @volksvreemd & crew on a number of their adventure races over the last 4 years now.

Coming from a place where I had very little understanding of what an AR was, to being indoctrinated into the cult of believing that AR is probably one of the toughest sports to compete in today, I am too stoked to share some of the stills from the 2026 Swellendam edition of the series.

There is nobody else I would rather run around at 3am in the morning with fuelled by coffee & banana bread @brundle and I must thank you deeply for exposing me to your world and your continued sharing of your space and people with me.

While most sports are hard to encapsulate in an image, the nature of AR makes it completely futile to even try.

My hope is these images I captured manage to share, in the smallest shape and form, a bit of the feelings and emotions from the weekend.

To everyone who competed, you’re all a bunch of bladdy legends and you inspire the rest of us to do hard things.

And that is where the marrow of life lives <3

Til next year.

Happy racing. taken in Swellendam, South Africa by @brundle3
