They told you to be tough. But nobody told you where toughness actually comes from. On October 24th, I had the honor of teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the San Antonio Police Academy @sanantoniopd during the Women in Policing event, alongside an incredible group of women from different backgrounds. Some wore uniforms. Others wore gis. But everyone stepped onto the same mat. And that’s something I love about Jiu-Jitsu. It doesn’t matter what title you carry, what you do for a living, or how strong you look on the outside. On the mat, we all have something to learn. Size matters. Strength matters. But so do leverage, technique, and the ability to stay calm when things get difficult. I have spent years on the mats, and I am still learning. That day reminded me why I love sharing this art. Different women. Different journeys. One common willingness to learn. You don’t have to be fearless to be courageous. Sometimes courage is simply showing up. My sincere gratitude to the San Antonio Police Department for the invitation and to every woman who shared the mats with me. It was an honor. And thank you to KENS 5 News @kens5 for covering this special event. πŸ’› Have you ever stepped into something that intimidated you, only to discover you were more capable than you imagined? Jiu-Jitsu is EVERYWHERE. 🌎πŸ₯‹ Actors. Entrepreneurs. Fighters. Celebrities. People from completely different worlds β€” all stepping onto the mats and discovering the same thing we already know: Jiu-Jitsu changes you. It challenges your body, tests your mind, humbles your ego and teaches you how to stay calm when things get uncomfortable. And we absolutely LOVE seeing Jiu-Jitsu spreading around the world. The mats don’t care who you are. Just TRAIN. πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™ #BrazilianJiuJitsu #BJJ #JiuJitsu #BrazilianTopTeam #MartialArts by @bttnortheast
Rain or shine. 4 AM or 7 PM. Good days or difficult ones. πŸ₯‹ Up to seven classes a day, and Professor Diego Gamonal continues to show up with the same dedication, passion, and positive attitude. Over 30 years dedicated to Jiu-Jitsu, countless hours on the mats, and a legacy that goes far beyond medals and championships. What makes him special isn’t just what he has accomplished, but the consistency, gratitude, and love he brings to the mats every single day. His favorite reminder? β€œBe grateful for today.” πŸ™ We are proud to have Professor Gamonal leading our Brazilian Top Team family! ❀️πŸ₯‹ #BrazilianTopTeam #DiegoGamonal #BJJLife #JiuJitsuFamily #BTTTexas by @bttnortheast
Behind every new belt and every stripe, there is a child who kept showing up, even on the days it wasn’t easy. πŸ₯‹β€οΈ Today at Brazilian Top Team Northeast, we celebrated much more than promotions. We celebrated courage, discipline, friendships, confidence, and the beautiful journey of growing up on the mats. To every parent who trusts us with their children, thank you. To our professors, thank you for your dedication. And to our little champions, we couldn’t be prouder of you! Congratulations to all our students! Your journey is just beginning! πŸ†πŸ‘ #BTTNortheast #KidsJiuJitsu #BeltPromotion #BrazilianTopTeam #FutureChampions by @bttnortheast
Someone grabs you from behind. What happens next? Panic is a natural reaction. Training gives you a chance to respond with more control. This is one of the reasons I love teaching self-defense. πŸ’™πŸ₯‹ Would you know what to do? #SelfDefense #JiuJitsu #WomensSelfDefense #BrazilianJiuJitsu #BJJ by @bttnortheast
JIU-JITSU IS EVERYWHERE. 🌎πŸ₯‹ PART 2. A Hollywood superstar. A world-famous model. A singer. And even a President of the United States. Different generations. Different backgrounds. Different lives. Yet somehow, they all found their way to the mats. One of the most fascinating stories goes all the way back to 1905, when President Theodore Roosevelt was practicing Japanese jiu-jitsu and writing about it to his family. More than a century later, the martial arts continue reaching people we would never expect. And that might be the most beautiful thing about it. Behind every famous face is a person willing to learn something new. Which name surprised you the most? πŸ‘€ And who should be in PART 3? Rain or shine. Monday through Sunday. No excuses. πŸ’ͺ Every single morning, Prof. Diego shows up at the gym with the same discipline, the same positive attitude, and the same words: β€œBe grateful for today.” πŸ™ Years of consistency. No shortcuts. No need for applause. And that’s something I truly admire about him. ❀️ Discipline is what you do when nobody is watching. #Discipline #Consistency #DiegoGamonal #BJJLifestyle #Gratitude by @bttnortheast
Discipline doesn’t take days off. πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯ Some mornings you feel strong. Other mornings, you barely feel like showing up. But the people who make consistency part of their lives understand something: progress isn’t built on motivation alone. It’s built through the ordinary mornings, the quiet effort, and the decision to keep going. No audience. No applause. Just showing up and putting in the work. And sometimes, the best part is having good people beside you along the way. πŸ™πŸ₯‹ #Discipline #Consistency #JiuJitsuLifestyle #BTTTexas #EverydayProgress by @bttnortheast
You can win a jiu-jitsu match without submitting anyone. Most people watching have no idea how. Here is the scoring in plain English (IBJJF adult rules): 2 points: takedown, sweep, knee on belly 3 points: guard pass 4 points: mount and back control A tap ends the match instantly, whatever the score. Tied? Advantages first, then penalties, then the referee. Next time you watch a match, you will see the whole story. And if you want to feel it yourself, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Schertz starts with a free class. Adult beginners train Monday and Wednesday at 6:10 PM. No gi and no experience needed. πŸ“ 1420 Schertz Pkwy #100, Schertz TX πŸ“ž 210-941-4715 πŸ₯‹ First class free.
