They told you to be tough. But nobody told you where toughness actually comes from.

On October 24th, I had the honor of teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the San Antonio Police Academy @sanantoniopd during the Women in Policing event, alongside an incredible group of women from different backgrounds.

Some wore uniforms. Others wore gis. But everyone stepped onto the same mat.

And that’s something I love about Jiu-Jitsu.

It doesn’t matter what title you carry, what you do for a living, or how strong you look on the outside.

On the mat, we all have something to learn.

Size matters. Strength matters. But so do leverage, technique, and the ability to stay calm when things get difficult.

I have spent years on the mats, and I am still learning.

That day reminded me why I love sharing this art. Different women. Different journeys. One common willingness to learn.

You don’t have to be fearless to be courageous. Sometimes courage is simply showing up.

My sincere gratitude to the San Antonio Police Department for the invitation and to every woman who shared the mats with me. It was an honor.

And thank you to KENS 5 News @kens5 for covering this special event.

💛 Have you ever stepped into something that intimidated you, only to discover you were more capable than you imagined?

Jiu-Jitsu is EVERYWHERE. 🌎🥋

Actors. Entrepreneurs. Fighters. Celebrities. People from completely different worlds — all stepping onto the mats and discovering the same thing we already know:

Jiu-Jitsu changes you.

It challenges your body, tests your mind, humbles your ego and teaches you how to stay calm when things get uncomfortable.

And we absolutely LOVE seeing Jiu-Jitsu spreading around the world.

The mats don’t care who you are.
Just TRAIN. 💛💚💙

Smaller? Good. Jiu-jitsu was built so technique can beat size.

That is the idea behind women's jiu-jitsu, and here is how it works:

Leverage: your hips and legs are your strongest tools.
Timing: balance beats strength.
Position: control first, finish second.
Patience: nobody expects you to know it on day one.

You will not be the only beginner in the room. Women's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at BTT Schertz meets Tuesday and Thursday at 6:10 PM. No experience, no gi, and no athletic background required.

I’m not a professional podcaster. I never planned to become one, either.

But I have something that made me want to give this a try: a list of extraordinary people whose stories deserve to be heard.

People who have built something remarkable. People who have overcome the unimaginable. People whose experiences, wisdom, and journeys deserve to be remembered.

And I kept thinking… what if I could sit across from them, ask the questions that matter, and preserve those conversations for generations to come?

So here we are. ❤️

The Champions Code is officially happening!

And I couldn’t be more honored to begin this journey with someone so special to me, Master Murilo Bustamante. 🥋

Rain or shine. 4 AM or 7 PM. Good days or difficult ones. 🥋

Up to seven classes a day, and Professor Diego Gamonal continues to show up with the same dedication, passion, and positive attitude.

Over 30 years dedicated to Jiu-Jitsu, countless hours on the mats, and a legacy that goes far beyond medals and championships.

What makes him special isn’t just what he has accomplished, but the consistency, gratitude, and love he brings to the mats every single day.

His favorite reminder? “Be grateful for today.” 🙏

We are proud to have Professor Gamonal leading our Brazilian Top Team family! ❤️🥋

Our Little Ninjas traded their regular uniforms for Halloween costumes, and the mats were full of smiles, laughter, and spooky fun! 🎃👻🥋

What a fun Halloween celebration with our Tuesday & Thursday Little Ninja group! 🧡

These little moments turn into beautiful childhood memories, and we love being part of them!

Happy Halloween from our little champions at Brazilian Top Team! 🎃🍬❤️

Someone grabs you from behind. What happens next?

Panic is a natural reaction. Training gives you a chance to respond with more control.

This is one of the reasons I love teaching self-defense. 💙🥋

Would you know what to do?

JIU-JITSU IS EVERYWHERE. 🌎🥋 PART 2.

A Hollywood superstar. A world-famous model. A singer. And even a President of the United States.

Different generations. Different backgrounds. Different lives.

Yet somehow, they all found their way to the mats.

One of the most fascinating stories goes all the way back to 1905, when President Theodore Roosevelt was practicing Japanese jiu-jitsu and writing about it to his family.

More than a century later, the martial arts continue reaching people we would never expect.

And that might be the most beautiful thing about it.

Behind every famous face is a person willing to learn something new.

Which name surprised you the most? 👀

And who should be in PART 3?

Follow @btt_sa for more stories from the world of Jiu-Jitsu. 💛💚💙

Two classes or five? Here is the honest answer for your first month.

Most beginners ask how often they should train, expecting a big number. The better question is what pace you can keep.

Start with two classes a week. Add a third when your body asks for it. Take your rest days seriously, because that is when the work settles in. A steady pace carried through the year will take you further than a hard push that ends in three weeks.

Looking for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Schertz? Adult beginners train Monday and Wednesday at 6:10 PM at BTT Schertz. You do not need a gi or any experience. Come see it for yourself.

Discipline doesn’t take days off. 💪🔥

Some mornings you feel strong. Other mornings, you barely feel like showing up.

But the people who make consistency part of their lives understand something: progress isn’t built on motivation alone.

It’s built through the ordinary mornings, the quiet effort, and the decision to keep going.

No audience. No applause. Just showing up and putting in the work.

And sometimes, the best part is having good people beside you along the way. 🙏🥋
