Yesterday was the fourth anniversary of my solo exhibition “Garden of Eden” @emmanuelartgallery, and tomorrow they celebrate 150 years as a building and 50 years as a gallery! This remains one of my favorite exhibitions ever, both for the all encompassing extent of it, the joy of making the paintings, and the beautiful experience of painting the walls and installing them with gallery director @lambsonjeff, and his remarkable staff Andrew Palamara (who is still there!) as well as @ashley.boucher_create.evolve, @__cynthia_c__ @basic___cable and more! I will never forget opening night- what an amazing celebration!

Art through the ages… October 5 edition! Just for fun I searched my photo library for this date and came up with these from 2010-2021

Come see what Artnaut member Trine Bumiller @bumiller_art has been up to in the MFA program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. OPEN STUDIOS there are this Friday, July 24, 4-8 pm

Her studio is in the MacLean Center, 112 S. Michigan Avenue, #1713. There will be many other studios across campus open that day (see the last slide).

About the Exhibition —
Crossings ~ Cruzando
Life is a continual passage from where we are to where we are going. Birth marks our first crossing, and each transition that follows shapes our experience of being human. Presented during Mexico’s Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Crossings / Cruzando draws inspiration from traditions of remembrance and the symbolic return of those who have died. For the Artnauts, crossing extends beyond life and death to encompass personal, psychological, cultural, and geographical transitions. Through diverse artistic perspectives, the exhibition explores the boundaries we navigate, the connections we form, and the transformations that inform our individual and collective human experience.

I am thrilled to share that the Artnauts Art Collective film premier of “Art Not as Usual” will happen at the Denver Film Festival, October 24! I am honored to be in the film several times, with Annie Eastman and her amazing crew filming me in Rwanda, Colombia, Brazil, and Colorado over the last five years! She also went to Bosnia, Northern Ireland and Texas, to tell our story. Thank you also to producers @martharusso22 and @pbquigleyart for a beautiful film, and thank you most of all to @georgefredrivera who started the @artnauts 30 years ago! The 30 year history of the Artnauts is compelling and I am so appreciative to be part of it.

Quick, very quick sketch (about 5 minutes!) of a road and a view in Grand County. Ignoring all the color out there while the light changed continuously. Last slide from a slightly different angle and less sun. Driving around looking at the aspens, taking way too many photos and not making enough drawings!

PS The colored tabs are from sharing my notebook with my @saic_lowres cohort last summer, still haven’t removed them, lol!

"Artnauts: From the Archive" exhibition includes works drawn from the Artnauts Collective Archive, featuring 95 works from 27 exhibitions from 2001-2026. Exhibit gives a glimpse into how the Artnauts exhibit their works internationally. The Artnauts, formed in 1996, have had more than 220 artists in the collective, participating in over 256 exhibitions, in 27 countries on 5 continents. The Artnauts have worked at the intersection of critical consciousness and contemporary artistic practice to impact change for 30 years.

The traveling "Artnauts: From the Archive" exhibition runs concurrently with Artnauts' foundational history exhibition, "Rhizome: Origins", taking place at the CU Art Museum in Boulder, Colorado.

It was first exhibited in “Art and Resistance” at Dar-El University in Bethlehem, Palestine in 2016, and has been part of the archive ever since.

“Where there is war and strife, there is the human resilience and resistance to the oppressing authority. Despite restrictions, the movement lives and grows from deep underground, breaking through the ties that bind. In this piece razor wire surrounds blades of grass divided by earth and air. Razor wire is omnipresent where there are border conflicts, and the hard dividing edge suggests the same. Green is life and growth, deep blue is faith and perseverance, while red is bloodshed and passion.” ~statement
