Come see what Artnaut member Trine Bumiller @bumiller_art has been up to in the MFA program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. OPEN STUDIOS there are this Friday, July 24, 4-8 pm

Her studio is in the MacLean Center, 112 S. Michigan Avenue, #1713. There will be many other studios across campus open that day (see the last slide).

About the Exhibition —
Crossings ~ Cruzando
Life is a continual passage from where we are to where we are going. Birth marks our first crossing, and each transition that follows shapes our experience of being human. Presented during Mexico’s Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Crossings / Cruzando draws inspiration from traditions of remembrance and the symbolic return of those who have died. For the Artnauts, crossing extends beyond life and death to encompass personal, psychological, cultural, and geographical transitions. Through diverse artistic perspectives, the exhibition explores the boundaries we navigate, the connections we form, and the transformations that inform our individual and collective human experience.

Cottonwoods along the Colorado River, way before it reaches the Grand Canyon and Mexico. What beautiful tangled networks of leaves and branches and vines to climb over and under, turning gold and persimmon on a warm autumn day. And train tracks.

Tomorrow is the closing celebration for “Come Together: 150 Years of the Emmanuel” where although most of my paintings are hung “ecclesiastically high” (John Russell’s expression) this one is hung at eye level on a background of stripe to evoke my 2022 installation and solo show “Garden of Eden”

Fifteen years ago today Stacy and Clinton came to film an episode of “What Not to Wear” during my solo show “Slipstream” at @markelfinearts in New York. (I was NOT the target, lol!)

It was facinating to watch them film. Later when the show aired, someone, seeing my work on the show, bought a painting! (last slide)

I am thrilled to exhibit this piece in “Rhizome: Origins/From the Archive” at the University of Colorado Art Museum @cuartmuseum in the Artnauts @artnauts 30th Anniversary exhibition.

Opening Celebration:

The watercolor on paper was first exhibited in “Art and Resistance” at Dar-El University in Bethlehem, Palestine in 2016, and has been part of the archive ever since.

Statement-
“Where there is war and strife, there is the human resilience and resistance to the oppressing authority. Despite restrictions, the movement lives and grows from deep underground, breaking through the ties that bind. In this piece razor wire surrounds blades of grass divided by earth and air. Razor wire is omnipresent where there are border conflicts, and the hard dividing edge suggests the same. Green is life and growth, deep blue is faith and perseverance, while red is bloodshed and passion.”
