POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
It’s taken me a while to put this into words because, honestly my heart is pretty full when I look back and reflect on the last eight years in professional baseball.

Baseball has given me far more than I ever could have imagined. It gave me a childhood dream to chase, countless memories I’ll carry with me forever, and the opportunity to meet and build relationships with some incredible people. I’m thankful for every teammate, coach, clubhouse, field, long bus ride, flight, high and low, and every person who played a part in that journey.

Most of all, I’m thankful to God for giving me the opportunity to play this game for 26 years. Looking back now, I truly believe He knew exactly what He was doing.

Baseball gave me the platform to build a life around something else that has become just as meaningful to me, the outdoors. The timing of baseball and hunting season line up perfectly, and over the years, the relationships I built through baseball opened doors and introduced me to people who would eventually become some of my closest friends within the outdoors industry.

What started as a passion outside of baseball slowly became a huge part of who I am and what I want my life to be about. I’m incredibly grateful that God used one passion to lead me toward another.

I always worried about this “transition” period because I knew it would come someday. I didn’t know what it would look like or what would be next, but God did. Looking back, I truly believe He knew exactly what He was doing.

I’m proud to share that I’ve accepted a position as the Regional Representative for Oklahoma and Southern Kansas with Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever.

Baseball will always be a huge part of my story, it made me the man I am today, and I’ll always be grateful that I got to play the game I love for as long as I did.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the journey so far.

Here’s to the next chapter. 🍻 by @calebknight13

The true hero of this waterfowl season. No matter how harsh the elements were or how exhausted we were, when the alarm sounded she was always the first one up. From being covered in hundreds of cockleburs to half mile retrieves. We appreciate and love ya Rosie girl 🌹❤️

Week 49 with Adeline (12 months old): this week was all about the water. It was time to start taking the same drills we have been focusing on hard for the past 3 weeks into a new environment. Throughout the week we continue working on blinds both in water and on land overall she did great and managed to hold confidence in her lines and had very little issues. I challenged her a little bit more on some of these by throwing some on the other side of the water onto land. These confused her a bit and she struggled. Once she was in the water she wanted to continue looking and hunting only in the water and not push up onto land. I didn’t push her too hard on these and our next session I just implemented a few of these as marks to give her the idea. By the end of the week she was able to crush blinds across the water and up onto land with very little issues. This was fun to see and her confidence staying high with the blinds. The next addition we made was taking the T drill to the water. The first day with this went pretty bad. She had a pretty tough time with casts in the water. She did a really good job of getting turned in the water but she would lose sense of direction and then had no idea which way I was trying to send her. As the week continued I simplified the drill as much as I could. I started off by just doing a pile drill in the water and whistle stopping her and then giving her back casts. After a few of these I transitioned her into the simplest T drill I could and she was much better. After a couple days of keeping it simple she progressed and got the hang of it. She still wants to come a little too far forward on the overs sometimes but as confidence and experience builds this will clean up. To wrap up our sessions we continued working on angle backs to keep getting clean reps under the belt. We did these both on land and water and she has been perfect on these. Overall this week was a tough one for her. Complex drills in two totally new environments plus adding water tested her a lot. She stayed confident and worked super hard and I am very proud of the progress she made. by @calebknight13

Week 39 with Adeline (10 months old): this week we continued to advance along with hand signals. The two primary drills we incorporated were the pull push drill and combining all hand signals. Pull push started off as a lining memory and then as we returned to the place board I would sit her and continue walking. Once I got back I would give her a recall whistle and then a quick whistle stop once she came to a sit I would then send her back to the mark with a hand signal. Overall she did great on these throughout the week. Very minimal issues at all. One big focus we did incorporate though was mixing in lots of recalls without stopping her so she wouldn’t start checking up on an ordinary recall. I noticed by the end of the week she was returning highly alert without slowing but also ready for the whistle any moment. It was super neat to see her grow in this aspect compared to earlier in the week. The next main drill for the week was combing hand signals. The first couple sessions were a little rough. She was really sped up and not differentiating between back or over to the side I was giving. I would slow her down and correct her and then give a more deliberate signal while keeping her calm. As the week went by she progressed every single day. During the last session of the week she was perfect except for one slight mistake on opening the wrong direction on a back cast but other than that she was lights out. I was really impressed by how hard she battled even through the tough Oklahoma heat as you could see it becoming a distraction. Other drills we incorporated throughout the week were remote marks on both land and water, whistle stop retrieves, and 3 handed casting. I felt like this has been one of the biggest growth weeks I have seen of her yet. From how we started to how we finished was huge and I am beyond proud.

She even got her own crocs so she can be going out on the parents boat 🩴

Huge shoutout to @sitkagear for gearing me up for this waterfowl season! 🦆 Super grateful for the amazing jackets, waders, shirts, pants, hats and gloves they sent over. This gear is the best on the market and their technology and reliability is unmatched. Comfort is key on those cold long boat rides and long sits in the blind. Sitka makes it happen. Couldn’t be more thankful! Opening day tomorrow, let’s get after it! 👊🏻

Week 10 with Adeline (17 Weeks): as we progress through our training regimen the focus this week was send to place and then advancing on with extended place to greater distances and with more distractions. The first half of the week we kept it fairly simple with the environment and trained around the house as we introduced send to place. The first day she struggled with it and we were only able to get a few feet away and have success. As the week progressed after days two and three she quickly became fluent and was going straight to place perfectly. On day 4 I decided to challenge her and took her out to a different environment where she has never had structure and after acknowledging some of the distractions she quickly locked in and we had great success on send to place and extended place. We are continuing to mix in retrieving drills throughout the week and her drive to retrieve is at an all time high. She is absolutely fearless and has been crushing it in all aspects.

Also big thank you to our good friend @cameron.niemela who was in town for the week to snap some awesome photos for us. by @calebknight13
