How do you introduce yourself in professional settings when you balance more than one type of work?

For me, it can depend on the environment and which type of work feels most relevant. When I want to paint a full picture of what I do, I find it helpful to refer to myself as a multi-disciplinary creative. Here’s why…

It’s taken me awhile to be OK with the idea that my career didn’t move in a straight line (and actually, I had to accept that I never wanted it to!)

I began my career at local print magazine. Seeing peer publications disappear left and right taught me early that I need to be able to adapt

Those early professional experiences, as well as my experience as a first-generation college student, shaped me into the person I am today. I would not be able to teach social media for marketing if I didn’t have the professional background or the lived experience to give me confidence

In addition to working at two Little Caesars locations in my teens, DJing one of my earliest work experiences! In “DJing 101,” our midterm was a house party and our final exam was a party at a 700-resident co-op.

My latest professional chapter wouldn’t be possible without everything that came before. It’s also looked sooooo different! I’ve wanted to work for myself for decades and I’m so grateful to be here.

Let’s connect! Drop me a DM or comment and let me know how you introduce yourself! 😊 taken in San Diego, California by @cami_can

✨YOU are the throughline✨ you don’t have to fit everything you love into one box or justify it to anyone. Take that class, pick up that hobby, read that book!

If you’ve been feeling like it’s “too late,” I hope that my story can help remind you that it’s not!

I firmly believe it’s never too late to change your life. I live with anxiety and tend to overthink a lot of decision-making.

I try to remind myself of all the people who are living in a way that feels impossible to me now.

All you have to do is take the first step in the direction you want to go.

I am determined to make dressing for work feel *fun*! I love colorful fashion, thrifting, and funky style.

I’m lucky enough to run a business, DJ, and teach as an adjunct professor for work. Follow along as I put together some #whimsicalworkwear that puts personality on display!

I read somewhere once that the only people you need to make proud are the 8 and 80-year-old versions of you. I look forward to meeting 80-year-old me and I’d like to think that 8-year-old me would be proud of the person I am today. Heavy on that last slide because that day really changed everything for me!

Three more creative events in San Diego that should be on your radar! What else do you think should be on this list?

Details for these three events in the the video and below:

🔸 Reading parties by @readingrhythms_sd are a great opportunity to connect with fellow readers and disconnect to catch up on reading for fun!

🔸 Storytelling nights from @sosayweallonline are so fun to watch! There’s a new theme every month and if you’re feeling brave you can join a Long Story Short on short notice. VAMP requires sign-ups in advance.

🔸 @abnormalnights is a free monthly comedy show hosted at the @adamsavetheater. The lineup is always a suprise but I’ve always seen incredible local and touring talent at these shows!

I can’t believe I scored these White House Black Market blue trousers for $5 at @homestartthriftboutique in Normal Heights!

I loved pairing it with this 70s style polo and denim platforms for a fun and funky look.

I can’t believe we just finished the second week of the semester 😮
