When design meets efficiency.

In the search for ways to reduce energy consumption, curtains play a crucial role. The Augmented Curtain uses the same principle as building insulation – trapping air in small pockets – to create an energy-efficient indoor environment by reducing heat loss from drafts, thermal bridges, and windows.

Augmented Curtain by Christophe Guberan and Camille Blin.

The Augmented Curtain exploits the possibilities of 3D weaving techniques by using the yarns from Reflect, a textile made from recycled polyester, to create lightweight curtains. These curtains consist of small tubes that trap air, forming an insulating barrier between the window and the room. The 3D-woven fabric has three different yarn axes arranged in orthogonal directions, with a third yarn bolstering the fabric’s through-thickness direction. This creates empty pockets within the fabric, allowing the curtain to passively trap air.
