Push-up starts force a low first step angle. Good acceleration requires the body to stay low and project forward at a steep angle. Push-up starts put you in that position automatically. You can’t pop upright because the physics of getting off the ground require horizontal force production to even stand up. It teaches the feel of that forward lean without having to consciously think about it.

If you’re an athlete who’s struggling with acceleration definitely add these into your training. by @canaanbennett

The workout is the signal. You show up, you train hard, you create stress on the body. That stress breaks you down. Your muscles are damaged. Your nervous system is taxed. In that moment you are actually worse than when you walked in.

Progress happens after. During sleep. During your meals. During the rest you keep skipping because you think more is always better.

Your body takes the signal from your training and uses recovery to rebuild stronger than before. That is what adaptation actually is. That is how you get better. Not from the workout itself but from what happens between workouts.

This is why sleep is training. This is why nutrition is training. This is why a rest day is not laziness. It is part of the program.

The athletes and clients I coach who make the most progress are not the ones who train the hardest. They are the ones who recover the best.

But training hard helps too 🤣 by @canaanbennett

Most 13 year olds don’t need to lift weights. They’d benefit more from learning how to move properly FIRST. by @canaanbennett

I’ve enjoyed training for speed over the last couple weeks. Much less volume in the weightroom than usual for me!

Speed is tricky because you need more rest than usual. It’s really hard to get faster in season… Luckily I don’t play sports like most highschool athletes! Haha

A lot of people train alone… And there is definitely a time and place for that… But training in community is what we were created to do!

1. Iron sharpens iron. Training with others who are motivated to work hard is contagious. Not every day you want to work hard. But what happens when you show up and the others around you do? It’s contagious.

2. We are wired for shared struggle. The bond created with those you train with is automatically deeper and more real. We were made to struggle together but live in an age where struggle is not as common as it used to be. Suffering together is oddly refreshing.

3. Consistency because of accountability. You are way more likely to stay consistent with your training if you have others holding you accountable to it. by @canaanbennett

Being my own guinea pig! Time to get FAST. If you want to follow the same plan i’m following for the next 6 weeks let me know and i’ll send it your way for free :).

This is how I keep training fun. And if I keep training fun then I know i’ll stay consistent!

I’m a FIRM believer that training like an athlete is the best form of training for EVERYONE. Why did we stop?

For looks? We got tired? We graduated college? We had kids?

An athletic body is a healthy body. You should be able to run, jump, lift, and compete. If not for yourself then for your kids!

Staying athletic IS staying healthy.

Bodybuilding makes you stiff. Cardio is great, but doesn’t keep you strong.

A lifetime of training like an athlete is KEY to being happy, healthy, and moving well. by @canaanbennett

One of my big goals is to make sure my kids are always included in my fitness time. Daisy and I got a morning workout in this weekend while mom slept in. She loves going to the gym and hanging out. She’s still working on her pushups tho 🤣 by @canaanbennett

When schedules come out you will notice that what was traditionally called “Weight Training” is now being called “Human Performance.”

This is a project I have been working on for a WHILE now! I’m so excited to finally share it with you all.

We will still build fast, strong, conditioned athletes. That is not up for debate! But we are after something bigger! The discipline you will build in this class/ program will spill into every area of your life. How you love. How you serve. How you worship.

Human Performance is bigger than just preparing for sport.

Let’s get after it this school year! by @canaanbennett

I probably sound like a broken record by now…

When’s the last time you took a week off? Everyone preaches more more more more. Don’t fall into the trap of over doing it. You’ll get burned out. by @canaanbennett

This is a longer video than I usually post but it’s something that I am becoming increasingly passionate about.

The answer is not MORE MORE MORE. It’s less. With more intentionality. The intentionality part is key.

Practice counts as training. Games count as training. Workouts count as training. Most athletes are never taking the time to recover…

If athletes started doing less on a weekly basis and made their training more Intentional they would progress faster. by @canaanbennett
