Standing some 777 metres above sea level, Mount Lidgbird is Lord Howe's slightly smaller twin peak and may be climbed via the Goat House Cave track, a runner-up to the full day Mount Gower climb.

Pause on your upwards climb to the Goat House cave to admire the view over the Malabar Ridge, North Bay and Mount Eliza, as well as the Admiralty Islands and the Lagoon. On a clear day you can be lucky to see the rise of Balls Pyramid, the world's tallest seastack, in the distance.

Kentia palms that grow wild nowhere else on earth.
Twin mountain peaks holding the island’s southern end.
Nine suites set at their feet.
An ocean that starts at the lagoon and stretches to the horizon.
Four hundred visitors at a time, and no more.

Mount Gower at one end, Mount Eliza at the other and the crescent shaped lagoon in between. Lord Howe reaches eleven kilometres in total, with nothing to do except explore.

Barefoot on the beach by morning. Out on the reef before lunch. Back at the lodge as the afternoon drifts by.
