another rotation around the sun. as i reflect on the past year i see that it really stretched me to my growing edge. it asked me to trust. to keep going. nose to the ground. it wasn’t the easiest, but hard work pays off, eh? this year i mean business (hence the power shoulders on this blazer). i’m ready to collect the bounty. ready to receive more than i can even dream up for myself. i might even be ready to let myself shine in ways that past versions of me would have squirmed at even considering. ✨ turning 36 is definitely the first time i have ever actually felt ‘old’ but if this is what age brings, let’s gooo babyy 🦋🎠🧚🏼‍♀️🌻🎉🧡🌀 by @carrot.jean

i got a rad little Canon Sure Shot point and shoot for Christmas last year, took it to France and shot three rolls of film having no idea if the camera even worked or how they would turn out. been sleeping on these and many more rolls shot through the year, and didn’t feel like i could share any of them unless i started here! so here ya go a year late, or perhaps right on time :)

this first round of photos are all the places we know and love Paris for ~ Cimetère du Père Lachaise, Notre Dame, Sacré Cœur, Arc de Triomphe, and Jardin du Luxembourg ✨

this dress is the first thing i’ve sewn from scratch in quite some time. i always miss sewing when i don’t have time or space, i’m never not thinking about it. it is one of a few activities where i feel entirely ‘me’ while doing it.

the #reetashirtdress was maybe not the easiest return, the collar absolutely confuddled me as you can see in the last photo 😂 but i am super happy with the end result. i also finally got over my irrational fear of buttons and discovered they are the most easy thing. i’ve been sewing zippers for years and they are so. much. harder. funny the stories our mind can make up. 🙃

it’s been a year since graduating grad school and i’m finally starting to feel like i’m getting into a ‘normal’ flow of life, one that has time for hikes and friends and down time. time for sewing. 🧡

a few weeks ago i started a really fun & inspiring project with my mom, @visual_thinker (it was her idea actually!) 100 tiny paintings in 100 days. i’m pacing myself at 2 a week, even though i just want to make them all day. i noticed i was getting hung up on coming up with 100 ideas to paint, so i’m using a random object generator to surprise me each time i paint, and i absolutely love it. i would have never painted a microphone or baseball otherwise! lots more to share about the project, but i’m going to start filming each painting come to life, so this will do for now. :) i hope you enjoy following along & you definitely should pop over and see what my mom’s paintings are looking like! leave any questions in the comments below! 🧡 🎨

a little over four years ago i let go of nearly everything i knew in my life, in what now feels like only a moment. an extreme demolition down to the foundation. only four months after, the world followed suit with the lockdown. i stood at the edge of a vast ocean, with absolutely no idea what was coming next. i sank into it’s depths, and bit by bit rebuilt my Self. pieces of my life slowly falling into place. i didn’t know what was coming next, often only holding a sketch of the vision that was to take shape. i still operate this way. i follow the tug of my intuition, being pulled by what feels like a swirling cloud of dreams and ideas.

at some point that tug led me to drive myself to a new city with no place to live, no job, knowing barely anyone. all i knew is that graduate school was starting in a little over a month. looking back now i see the courage it took to do this, but at the time it was the only clear path, so i did it without hesitation. again, i let things fall into place, bit by bit.

i am now on the other side of that graduate school journey, and letting myself take a few moments to breathe. i did it. myself, me, i did this. i completely reset the course of my life. and i’m really fucking proud of myself. i very much have had incredible support along the way, but since november of 2019, i have been the one steering my ship across that vast ocean. and i will never again let go of that wheel.

i never shared the incredible natural dye workshop i did with @grow_good!! i love teaching and it’s been years since i taught a dying workshop. it was so rewarding to jump back in and make some magical napkin sets using cochineal and marigold from the farm. we’d like to do these seasonally so keep a look out for future events, and i’m always open for other teaching opportunities! 🩷🧡 by @carrot.jean
