🎂I opened Xtabay 25 years ago today. I started out with a $7000 bank loan and racks and racks of vintage clothing I had amassed over the years, selling to local shops and being part of another store. I was 26. I was addicted to shopping, alcohol and dumb boys. My vision for Xtabay was based off finding a garage sale copy of Yma Sumac’s “Voice of The Xtabay”. I was enchanted by the imagery and the idea of the Xtabay being the most elusive of all woman. However, elusive I was not. From waking up hungover on the dressing room floor on 9/11 to staging ear drum destroying local rock shows I made quite an impression. It took getting sober, evolving with the times and a whole lot of fabulous women to last as long as I have. I am endlessly grateful to everyone (well, pretty much everyone…)who has walked through the doors. As you know, I’ve decided to close the brick and mortar at the end of the month in order to devote myself to selling more here on Instagram and on our website shopxtabay.com - I hope you continue to follow along. It’s been the most fabulous way to grow up. Thank you for everything! 🎂
