Oil Painting 101 class taught by @caseyvstelstudio was a great success last night! So fun to get to introduce this special medium to people for the first time and see everyone’s creativity come out! Here at Gallery Wrightwood we believe that art and creativity are for EVERYONE, if you think of yourself as an artist or not.

Keep an eye out for more workshops & classes from us, we definitely want to do more!

Thanks as always to @stlukesls for their support which makes our programming possible! taken in St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Logan Square by @gallerywrightwood

Still grinnin’ from Sad Karaoke 🎤 ironic, I know. All you beautiful performers brought it, and it’s just so special to be our full selves together. Weird, dramatic, loud, silly, sad, creative, angry, hopeful, there’s so many ways to be human and we embraced them all.

Together we raised over $1,400 for South Loop Community Table to keep neighbors fed! Thank you for showing up and bringing such generosity. We are so much more powerful together than we would ever be apart!

🌱A report from the garden: My rhubarb bolted way too fast this year. Here I am with the beautiful and alien flower stalks it sent up in 2 days. (Bolting is when a plant sends out its flowers and seeds prematurely, meaning it’s anticipating the end of its life and preparing for the next generation of the plant. Too hot weather and other stressful conditions will trigger bolting. Bolting also means an edible plant won’t be edible anymore.)

I always get sad when I see my garden reacting to climate change, the wise bodies of the plants shifting their patterns in response to the weather and unpredictable storms. It feels like a cry for help, like the plants are saying something. But it’s also reassuring, that the earth already knows how to adjust to change and unpredictably and can act quickly to preserve future generations. We are a part of that ecosystem, we can change too. by @gallerywrightwood

Reading “The Serviceberry” by Robin Wall Kimmer for the second time and so moved. This is a quote from the book. The author presents such a open hearted and powerful naming of so much that feels wrong about our current extractive systems, and helps me imagine something else, in small and meaningful ways, even when we are so far from it in the big ways.

Really honored that this series of paintings, “grief”, will be shown at @hazroom for their show “Nobody’s Free Until Everybody’s Free”, a show connecting the joint struggles of movements for freedom across the globe. A portion of proceeds from all artwork sold go to @thepcrf

The opening night is June 14th and I will be there, would love to have you join me! Thank you @hazroom for putting this together, I can’t wait to see the complete show. taken in Chicago, Illinois by @gallerywrightwood
