About 20 artists made it onto the walls of six Dayton-area properties.
Cedric Michael Cox and Nathan Beard are two of them.

Cedric’s Playing in the Park No. 2 is part of a collection that draws from Dayton’s funk history. Music runs through a lot of his work, so it felt right there.

We first worked with Cedric in 2022 on Welcome Home, four murals in the Avondale neighborhood of his hometown, Cincinnati. This time, he and his team also installed artwork across all six properties.

Member artist Nathan Beard’s Exit Music No. 135 went into the fitness center for its energy and movement.

Residents now come home to work by artists from across the collection, and they’ve told us the new art has changed how the spaces feel.

Cedric and Brent are turning a pyramid into a canvas!

The multi-disciplinary artists and muralists are bringing projection mapping, metal sculpture, and a live-painted mural to BLINK 2026, built through the community organizations they work with every day.

Interactive. Immersive. Unmistakably theirs.

The painting Learn Liberate Lead, a tribute to the civil Rights icon Marian Spencer, was permanently installed over the summer at The Spencer Center for Gifted and Exceptional Students. This work, created by the students of the Spencer Center and myself, depicts symbols inspired by Marian's life. From the color of her birthstone and flower, with the emaciated slave reaching out toward liberation through education guided by the northern star quilt pattern behind the head of a dove, this painting stands as a testament to her legacy and our continual fight for freedom. Thank you, Ohio Arts Council, for your continual support, and thank you, Spencer Center art educator Angel StandBerry, for inviting me into your classroom to work with you and your amazing students in bringing this vision of hope to life. At last week's open house, we launched the release of limited edition, signed reproductions of this painting. All proceeds go to the school for future murals.

Life and Legacy

The Spencer Center is named in honor of one of Cincinnati's most esteemed residents, Marian A. Spencer. Growing up in the 1930s and 40s, Marian's activism predated the impactful work of Martin Luther King Jr. In fact, Dr. King found inspiration in Marian's successes. Throughout her life, she consistently broke barriers and was a pioneer in many significant achievements.

📣 Speaker Announcement!
We are thrilled to announce our August speaker, Cedric Michael Cox!

In Cedric’s words, his work has increasingly transitioned into bolder, brighter colors, as a shift in mood and tempo creates drawings that originate as studies and become essential to his process. “The forms seem to grow like plants and flowers, interweaving together in my vivid pictorial arena.”

We couldn’t think of anyone better to speak during this month’s theme of Nakhlah نخلة (pronounced NAKH·lah), an Arabic word meaning “palm”. This theme is a tribute to resilience, generosity, and rooted creativity.

Please join us Friday, August 28, at CAC. Free tickets are available through the link in our bio! taken in Contemporary Arts Center by @cedric_michael_cox

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the dedication of the mural Love Lives Here to the neighborhood of Wyoming. It was a pleasure to work with Wyoming Community in Action & Wyoming Art Show on this historic mural that has a home on the wall of Wyoming Community Coffee at 434 Springfield Pike. I am honored to be a part of this movement of love and camaraderie that is taking shape in this neighborhood and throughout Zone 15.

The theme for the Mural Project, "Love Lives Here," emerged from a powerful moment of solidarity following demonstrations by white nationalist groups near Lincoln Heights Elementary School. In response, residents and organizations throughout the 45215 corridor came together to show students, families, and neighbors that they were loved, valued, and supported.

Members of Wyoming Community in Action lined the school’s driveway with handmade signs offering messages of hope, encouragement, and unity. One sign simply read, “Love Lives Here.” That message resonated throughout the community, becoming a rallying cry for the growing partnership among the Zone 15 communities and ultimately became the theme for the mural project and other efforts.

My mother taught for the Wyoming School District for 28 years, educating students beginning in Kindergarten through Middle School, specializing in language arts. I have fond memories of hanging out with my mother this time of year, helping her prepare her classroom for the upcoming school year. My father also helped with illustrating some of the characters and learning props that decorated the classroom. Every mural I’ve completed over the years has a special meaning to me, but this one will always remind me of her and how much she valued the Wyoming community and the students she taught.

Thank you.

"JUST PURCHASED! "Together We Grow in HIS Light" found a home thanks to Cincinnati Art Galleries.

I am proud to say that this piece is the first work of art purchased by a young art lover who has become a familiar face to @cincinnatiartgalleries and Margaret Kline, CAG Gallery Director, who always goes above and beyond to build relationships with everyone who walks in the door. It's amazing to share the walls with Cincinnati Masters Tom Bacher and Terrance Corbin, but it's even better when you get a call from Margaret saying she sold your art.

The Language of Color in Art continues through June 12 at Cincinnati Art Galleries.

Through bold color, movement, and storytelling, this collection reminded us how art brings people together, sparks conversation, and creates space for reflection and connection. 🎨

Thank you, Cedric, for sharing your time, talent, and vision with our community. And thank you to everyone who showed up, supported, and helped make this opening so meaningful. ❤️

Celestial Glow" found a home this past Friday.
Jim and Erin Cencula have had their eye on the painting, "Celestial Glow," for years. It wasn't until they saw it hanging in the exhibition "Modern Love" at @millcroftgallery that they knew that it was now or never to have this painting become a part of their collection. Thank you, Jennifer S. Stuhlreyer of Milcroft Gallery, for exhibiting this piece, and thank you, Erin and Jim, for having my art become a part of your lives. The exhibition Modern Love continues through March at Milcroft Gallery, located at 203 Mill St., Milford, OH
