I’m incredibly honored to be named to the 2026 @ebonymagazine #EBONYPower100 in the Community Crusaders category.

For me, this is about so much more than recognition. Nearly everything we’ve built over the last decade was born from the most painful moment of my life and a promise that Kira’s story would not end with her death.

That promise became a mission: to turn pain into power and fight for a world where no mother loses her life giving the gift of life.

This year’s theme, “The Stories We Shape,” feels especially personal. We may not always get to choose the chapters life gives us, but we can choose what we do with them.

Grateful. Humbled. Energized.

And as always, this one is for Kira. 🖤

Repeat after us: Paid leave isn’t a vacation. It’s a lifeline.

Because here’s the truth:
💼 Only around 1 in 5 of civilian workers in the U.S. workers have access to paid leave.
⚖️ Black, brown, and low-income fathers are the least likely to take it.
📉 Lack of leave impacts everything from maternal health to employee retention.

Paid leave saves lives. It keeps families healthy. And it helps businesses thrive.

For 17 years, stories have been celebrated on this global stage and now this love letter has been recognized at one of the highest level of culture. This award belongs to the courageous mothers around the country who shared their truth.

A moment to look back on: This is what it looks like when fathers show up in the rooms where policy is made! 🏛️

On June 23rd, 4Kira4Moms and 4Kira4Dads joined the Office of Senator Raphael Warnock for the Dads Matter Act event on Capitol Hill, pushing legislation that puts fathers at the center of maternal health care.

The room was full. The message was clear. Fathers are not bystanders in this crisis, they are part of the solution.

Senator Raphael Warnock, Senator Ruben Gallego, Gabby Albert, Charles Johnson, Heidi Murkoff, Omari Maynard, Del Beaver, John Jensen, Rodrigo Stein, and advocates from across the country came together for one purpose: to make sure that when we talk about saving mothers’ lives, we include the fathers who are fighting to protect them.

The Dads Matter Act is the legislation that recognizes what this village has always known… when dads are informed, engaged, and present, maternal health outcomes improve!

This is the work. This is the fight. And we are just getting started.

Every single one of us came from a mother, birthed by a woman, and yet right here in the richest country in the world … and we have the worst birthing outcomes and the highest maternal death rate in the industrialized world.

There are SO many reasons behind these preventable deaths.

There are SO many things we as a country could, and should, be doing better.

Charles, Gabby, our partners, the village … we fight constantly to educate and advocate for stronger legislation and BETTER care for moms.

We fight because Kira should be here. None of these events should even matter. The interviews, the moments. We’d trade it all for a safer birthing rate. For Kira. For every mom and baby we’ve lost.

We should be celebrating the births, the babies, the mothers, and the strongest maternal care in the world. But we aren’t.

So, until we see 84% of preventable deaths no longer reported, we will continue to fight.

Join us. Join the village. Donate your support. Fight alongside us until AMERICA is truly great.
