MUSE, TELL ME OF THE PLANT OF MANY WILES…

A plant that inspires many, and can inspire many more. An emblem for survival in hard times. A symbol for learning that not only can we tame bitterness and manipulate it for our own enjoyment, but we can learn to embrace the flavor, and savor the undiluted difficulty as something nourishing for a particular part of the soul.

We’re peeling back the outer leaves, brushing away the slime, and announcing:

THE SALON DEL RADICCHIO
Monday, October 19
5:30 - 8:30pm
RailSpur, Seattle

Join us at the Salon del Radicchio for a fabulously bitter evening. We’re taking over the beautiful space at RailSpur in Pioneer Square for one night with a shared meal and shared conversation. There will be art, there will be flowers of winter, there will be conversation prompts. And there will be radicchio!

Forever & always rad supporters and chefs @emcdann (@thecorsonbuilding) and Russ Flint (@rainshadowmeats) are cooking a radicchio-centric family-style meal. Izzie @marigoldandmintbotanicals is decorating the space with fun stuff from the farm. Eric @_fishes_ made us this beautiful poster!! And the team at @railspur.seattle and @rallygroup_ is making the planning look and feel great 🫶

The boughs of this October are positively dripping with ripening radicchio greatness. Come see us at the SALON in Seattle, or at any other Rad event! Stay tuff, stay tender, stay bitter. Xo!

THE SALON IS TWO WEEKS AWAY! And you should know what you’re in for if you’re joining us.

Siri and Jason (@localrootsfarm) first had the chance to work with Chefs Emily and Russ way back in their early days as farmers, in 2008 and 2009, and they often talk about those ragers on the farm - they sound really fun, and really delicious.

Siri writes, “We were all relatively new to farming and cooking, and were full of energy and excitement about authentic farm-to-table food. We were growing a wild assortment of crops, and found immediate connection with a handful of Seattle chefs and restaurant owners.

Truly, radicchio would not be where it is today without the support that we found from Emily @thecorsonbuilding and Renee & Russ at Boat Street Cafe (I miss it so!).  They loved and encouraged us and bought our early and imperfect attempts at growing real Italian radicchio. Both Emily and Russ cooked a number of dinners at our farm, working with just an open fire and a two-burner stove to create some of the most memorable food I’ve ever eaten. We are beyond excited to be working with them again, here in our twentieth year as vegetable farmers, celebrating the obscure vegetable we’ve all had a hand in elevating.”

Joining Emily & Russ this year for the Salon feast are Ashley & Stephanie of @thetiderun !! The Tiderun organizes outdoor food experiences that you should DEFINITELY look into if you yearn for a rustic farm dinner (of the olden days, or of your dreams).

Get your tickets before the radicchio CSA folks buy them all! The menu is sounding like a dream, and that’s only half of the evening!! WE ARE SO EXCITED AND FEEL SO LUCKY TO EXIST IN THIS TIMELINE! See you there, bitter friends. by @chicoryweek

Happy Sunday a tutti! And hi, Seattle!

Post-book-release bliss there are *several* events for Seattle’s v rad, v v bitter chicory community.

There’s a book talk, a RAD pizza party, and a SALON del Radicchio. This is different from the SAGRA del Radicchio happening in Portland! And I want to tell you specifically about the Salon on this lovely Sunday eve.

The Salon del Radicchio is a crazy idea that came from many caffeine- and amaro-fueled chats with @localrootsfarm and @culinarybreedingnetwork about how to get a big rad event back to Seattle. Lane lovingly adopted the Sagra down to Portland for many reasons, and it is positively thriving there as a big tasting event/radicchio party/beans and winter squash included! It is so tasty, it is SO special, and we love it so much!!

And still, we wanted something in Seattle!

So we came up with THE SALON. The idea comes from salons during the “age of conversation,” when people would gather to discuss ideas, art, politics, and so on. Sometimes they were seen as safe spaces to discuss controversial ideas; sometimes they were organized by the establishment, sometimes they were organized for rejects.

Our salon is organized for radicchio. And we are hosting it in a space that we are absolutely inspired by: @rooftopatrailspur in Pioneer Square!

There will be radicchio and vegetable matter decorating the space by @marigoldandmintbotanicals. There will be cool old pictures of radicchio growing and farming from days when Rosa del Veneto was just a sparkle in some nonno’s eye. There will be beautiful food from @thecorsonbuilding @rainshadowmeats and @thetiderun, there will be amari and wine and beer… and there will be conversation!

Tickets are $135 and get you in the door, a welcome drink, and a beautiful farm-fresh family-style dinner. Meat will be served, but vegetarians will have plenty to enjoy!

So… join us if you can. The SALON DEL RADICCHIO will feed your belly, and your mind, and your soul, too.

WILL WEE SEE YOU THERE? Hope so.

Stay bitter,

Very special thanks to Meredith of @lamedusarestaurant for hosting and making my favorite Sicilian bites in her beautiful Persephone bar! And Siri and Jason of @localrootsfarm and Cassie of @chicoryweek who have worked tirelessly to spread the chicory love! 💜

And speaking of following… yet another Grateful Dead cover band was playing on the corner outside the restaurant. We’re sensing a pattern!! ✌️

Keep the chicory love going! Grab your ticket for Salon del Radicchio on Monday, October 19, in Seattle—a gathering of fellow chicory fans. More deets at @chicoryweek.

Chef and farmer Meredith Molli of @lamedusarestaurant is throwing us a book release party! 💜🥬

Join us at her adorable aperitivo bar Persephone (adjacent to La Medusa) on October 1st to celebrate the release of “Radicchio: A Celebration of the Beloved Italian Vegetable” with me (Lane), Margarett Waterbury, and Shawn Linehan.

Just because we all three live in Portland doesn’t mean we don’t love and recognize that Seattle and the greater Pacific Northwest is what @farmersiri calls “the Veneto of North America”! The Seattle farm and food community has been a leader in creating the radicchio movement. (Note the photo from the 2019 Sagra del Radicchio 💜)

There could not be a more perfect person to host our Seattle book release celebration than Meredith, who has grown and prepared radicchio on her farm and in her restaurant for years. She also has two recipes featured in the book - swipe to see her involtini and pasta dishes.

This will be a full-on soirée: part book signing and part radicchio-fueled celebration with fellow radicchio lovers.

Your $28 ticket (link in profile) includes:
– Radicchio featured dishes from the La Medusa kitchen
– One welcome drink (NA available)

Copies of Radicchio will be available for purchase to have signed at the party.

📍 Persephone. 4857 Rainier Ave S. Seattle, WA
📅 October 1st
⏰ Two options: 4:30-6:30pm or 6:30-8:30pm
🎟️ at link in profile

Come celebrate the book and the world’s most beautiful leafy vegetable.
