Photos and videos couldn’t do these mountains any justice. They’re honestly so special. Wildlife and flora that I’ve only seen in books and other media. I’m blessed that my cousin and I made our way here and am building a home in this beautiful state.

A monarch’s migration is one of the most significant and grueling journeys within our natural world. I got the chance today to see what a long journey does to these beautiful creatures. This male has flown over 700 miles to make it here in NC to Black Balsam Knob. He is fueling up on abundant wild white asters along the Art Loeb trail. The Appalachian ridge lines and Blue Ridge Parkway are essential for their journey to the Oyamel fir forests in Mexico that this little dude is pushing himself to get to. If he makes it, his life will total out to 8 to 9 months vs 2 to 6 weeks. Super happy to have been able to capture him on his journey. He has no clue how stunning those wings are to my nerdy ass 🤣😄

My little Scorpio twin, Celeste 🖤
It’s an honor to be able to care for such a sweet little being. And yes—I’m about to be the most insufferable cat dad out here lmao. 🤷🏾🕺🏾

A crown of woven tresses,
an inheritance of royal bast
knotted by sainted hands.

This onyx cord
draped as ebon damask,
sable tapestry that falls lightly
against my iliac crest.

Strong noctis filament,
Woven in ancestral piqué.

Time has given me
A kingdom I carry,
a sovereign archive
In every patient, sigilled spiral.

These locs have been with me, growing, through life and near death.

A reminder to myself that I am making the little one in the last photo happy, each and every day that I am present for the little things.

As humans we get so caught up in our own little lives, we forget how special it is to be sentient and able to nurture the small innocent creatures we coexist with. What a blessing to witness such a beautiful world—despite the repulsive greedy ass cretins who are trying to destroy it all for profit. Thank you, Gaia.
