[home truth]: “an indisputable fact or basic truth, especially one whose accuracy may cause discomfort or embarrassment. It hits, so to speak, where you live.” - Sara Maitland, Home Truth

How do our words become actions?
What is the music of our language?
How can language speak where we live in our bodies?

In this workshop I will guide us through a series of structured movement exercises, vocal improvisations, and somatic meditations to help open up possibilities of the voice and body.

The [home truth] practice is about being vulnerable and expressive through simultaneous movement and speech improvisation. We will progress through a series of scores that open up our capacity to continuously track ourselves in movement and speech, then explore different modes of improvising speech while dancing. We will perform for one another. We will witness what emerges.

This workshop is limited to 10 participants. by @chrissybounce

Catch us @theneofuturists theater this summer.

SAVE THE DATE
7/2, 7/3, 7/5
7/9, 7/10, 7/11

A two-year process with some Very Excellent Collaborators is finally coming to fruition. We have gone through so many iterations of this work with @ginahs at the helm, encouraging us to dig deeply into Amanda and my eleven-year friendship, into the complex movement material, always asking one another what we need and how to make the work work for us. We remix the elements of this world together, letting new iterations of the material emerge through the shifting dynamics of our needs in the moment, and your curiosity. A different show every night. by @chrissybounce

I am so jazzed to host Jeanine Durning for her first ever Chicago workshop. Jeanine's process fundamentally altered the way I viewed my creative practice and I am excited to share it with more folks. DM me for more info, or see text to email and register!

MAKING our way: Workshop with Jeanine Durning
Saturday and Sunday 3/8-3/9
10:30 AM- 3:30 PM
Mind Body Connections: 1802 West Berteau Ave. Suite 205, Chicago

Cost: $250
Sliding Scale: $150-$300

Email: ChrissyBounceMartin@Gmail.Com, limited spots available

MAKING our way
Since around 2009, Jeanine has been working with and through a practice she calls nonstopping. What started as a creative survival strategy progressively accumulated into a practice of self-amplification and articulation in relation to conditions of the continuous present. Nonstopping understands the dance experiment as being on the way; it persists in amplifying the mobilizing and mutable force of mind and body in the midst of undeniable, uncontrollable change and precarity. Nonstopping is a practice of active resistance to other forces (internal and external) that conspire against expression of thought, speech and body.

What to Expect
Folks can expect to move and speak a lot as a mode of creative practice. This workshop is open to all folks of all disciplines and experiences willing to do those things while sometimes or sometimes often not knowing why or what is being produced from it. A willingness to not know and still stay in desire is useful. We’ll discuss and write. We’ll work alone together, together in relation, or just alone, in pairs, or small groups. Bring something to write with and on.

So honored and moved to be a part of the @freedom_from_and_freedom_to family. From our performance at The Comfort Station in Logan Square on Friday, September 6th, 2024. Caged birds singing, walls come tumblin’ down. Photos by the inimitable @ricardoeadame

[ID]: four performers move, sing, and shout through Edra Soto’s architectural installation, “Casa de Todos,” a multicolored house-like structure with geometric cutouts of walls and open doorways. Aaliyah and Chrissy are silhouetted by street lights as they move behind the many symmetrical angled lines of the structure while Paige and Julian sing, speak, and wail the Truth in front. Sometimes the dancers are on the ground, kneeling, crouching, sometimes throwing themselves outward or climbing upward on the structure. Both Julian and Paige sing with their full bodies, facial expressions wild with grief and resilience. In the last photo, all four performers smile and embrace in a final moment of completion. taken in Comfort Station Logan Square by @chrissybounce
