Here’s a realistic look at what movement was like in my third trimester. Is this everyone’s experience? Absolutely not!

Lift lift lift as long as possible! I was glad to keep this going right up to the finish line. I switched things up, leaning more on upper body and core. Finding other ways to get endorphins (like being outside in nature and having fun being in community while teaching my spin class) filled my cup.

Some weeks there wasn’t a ton of exercise and I focused more on nesting and resting. I made sure to take time to get my mind right and read a hypnobirthing book - can’t recommend enough!

Overall, would rate third trimester as 4/5 stars. I got my energy boost, my appetite improved and was hit with a welcome wave of confidence and excitement. Was not expecting to feel my best at the end of pregnancy, but I guess I was due for a win!

It’s time to get back to business!

I’m slowly returning from maternity leave with shortened days and hours. This way I can make sure I’m taking good care of myself, my little one, AND you!

Feeling so grateful for the whole @ethosbuffalo team for taking care of things while I’ve been away, but especially Maddie for giving wonderful pelvic health care. She continues to accept new clients and has morning, evening and weekend availability!

If you see me sneaking in and out of my office with a snack and my Spectra between appointments… yes you did.

Our wishes have been granted and prayers answered 💕 We’re so grateful to have our sweet, healthy, happy baby with us. We’re soaking in each moment!

I won’t be sharing much about him or my birth online or in person. Let’s be real - I’m no influencer and want to keep his and my privacy. I also recognize how many people struggle to get to this place (as I have myself) and want to respect how hard it can be to see others with what you so desperately want. Lastly, we’re all individuals and what happened for me or works for my family might not be the same for you!

I will share helpful tips I’ve learned and new perspectives I’ve gained in the process - in addition to the usual things you see here. Until then I’m enjoying my leave and taking in all the beautiful love we’ve received! Thank you for being here

Slams clinic door shut until this fall!

I’m out here feeling round and ready for maternity leave and wanted to take the chance to update everyone. With birth around the corner, I plan to take a break from social media. This will be a great way for me to take care of my mental health and bond with my growing family. I still have some posts scheduled and I’m sure I’ll peek in here every now and again. Know that I won’t be consistently reachable and I appreciate everyone who has strongly encouraged me to take all the time!

The reason I can comfortably do this is the awesome team we have at @ethosbuffalo. We’ve all worked so hard together to grow a thriving clinic and it feels crazy to “leave” this business baby! Looking back on the last handful of years I can’t believe what a grind it’s been, but I’m so proud of how things have flourished. The whole crew has encouraged me to take my foot off the gas and enjoy my new role as a parent.

All of my clients have been smoothly handed off to Maddie for pelvic PT and she’s already taking great care of everyone. If you’ve seen me in the past, know that you are welcome to get on to her schedule while I’m away. Anyone can return to my care when I’m back or continue to be treated by her based on your preference! Neither of us have any ego about this and just want you to be with the PT who will fit your needs best.

Thank you thank you to everyone who’s always trusted me with such a vulnerable part of their life. I can’t wait to come back with a whole new perspective on pelvic health and be an even better therapist!

Chronic pain is like holding a full cup. At the start, this is no big deal. Hey, it’s just a cup!

But what if you had to hold that cup all day every day? It gets heavy quick. You start to do all sorts of crazy stuff to keep it in the air. You act cool - nobody would understand how exhausting it is. Eventually it gets too heavy and everything spills out.

Nobody should have to live like this. True care for a chronic condition helps you come up with a plan for where you set the cup down. Maybe it can go in the cupboard for a while and you can reset the system that has worked too hard for too long. Then when the time comes to pick up the cup again, you’ll be ready and have more tools to get the job done!

Even pelvic PTs need pelvic PT!

In preparation for pregnancy, I dotted all the I’s and crossed every T that I could. I saw my pelvic PT, worked on my nutrition, got my mobility and strength in peak condition, managed my mental health and got my habits on point. I was ready to kick the crap out of pregnancy!

Despite all of my efforts and knowledge, I’ve been humbled by the process. I’ve peed my pants, been constipated, had pain with intimacy, have pubic & tailbone pain and so much more.

Since this can all happen to someone who planned as much as possible, it’s only solidified what I’ve already known. You need help. You need a team. You need a great pelvic PT, an OBGYN you trust, a doula you can lean on, a massage therapist with a belly hole table/cushion, a Webster certified chiropractor to manage pain, an acupuncturist who can keep symptoms under control.

Create your team, rely on them and take the humbling - I hear it’s good practice for what’s ahead! If you have any favorite providers that check those boxes, tag them in the comments!

Feeding and nursing are no easy tasks - especially when they come after 9 months of being in a completely different position. But don’t get it twisted; you don’t have to be the one who birthed to get the aches and pains that come with being hunched over a little babe.

So whether you’re breastfeeding, using bottles or are the second half of the parenting team - you could probably use some of these moves. My favorite is the last one 😉

Save for later or share with a friend who could use it!

A muscle that’s tight is just as bad at doing its job as a muscle that’s weak.

Let me say that again.

A muscle that’s tight is not going to complete its function well. Weakness is not the only reason for poor muscular performance!

When we see this in the example of a bicep curl, it makes a lot of sense. Pelvic floor muscles work the same!

So if “just do some kegels” hasn’t worked out so well for you, consider that muscular tension may actually be the issue. Get examined and we can come up with a plan that will serve you better!

Only a few more weeks until the baby gets here, I gotta toughen up!

Throughout pregnancy I’ve worked on my physical healthy plenty, but I’ve also worked on my mental health and toughness. Birth is a process that is completely out of your control in some ways. But in others, you get out exactly what you put in. I hope to do my best to bring a strong mind that also has the capacity to release when needed. I want to work with my body instead of against it and be able to sit with discomfort rather than fight back. Not easy feats, but if I can train my body in the gym, why wouldn’t I train my mind too?

I’ve jokingly spent a lot of my pregnancy quoting one of my favorite Adam Sandler lines, but I’ve found this to be an underrated part of the preparatory process. How did you work on your mentality before birth? Any favorite mantras? Please don’t tell me you got in front of a pitching machine to get tougher.

Stop scrolling if you’re 45 or older, know someone who is, or plan to be at some point in your life!

Estrogen is the magic hormone that makes the female pelvic floor come to life. We we stop producing our own as we age and our genital tissue is full of hormonal receptors. Less to receive = more symptoms. The region thins, becomes irritated, can narrow, has a loss of lubrication and we become more prone to infections.

TLDR: decreasing estrogen with age can mean urinary frequency, urgency, pelvic pain, pain with urination, vaginal dryness, and constipation. These symptoms may continue to worsen with age because we have had a lack of hormones for an even longer time.

Great news - this is preventable! Topical vaginal estrogen prescribed by your GYN is a way to give the genital tissue exactly what it needs, sent directly to the source. Don’t be afraid to ask them, or talk to me about it if you’re curious!

There’s so much more to say about this but a caption can only go so long. Want to hear more about this? Get in the comments and let me know!

I love it when my clients say “sooooooo… this might be TMI but…”

I let them know there’s no such thing as TMI in my world! Every day I talk about s3x, pee, birth, vag!nas, poop, masturbat!on, periods, discharge, pregnancy, pen!ses, orga$ms, hemorrhoids and so much more.

All of these things impact your pelvic health and there’s no shame in talking about them so we can get your feeling better ASAP!
