“Meditation taught me how to be free with everything, rather than free from everything.” – @christopherconnors

Growing up in Belfast with a childhood marked by war and loss led Chris Connors toward a lifelong exploration of awareness, meditation, movement, and the creative spirit. Today, his work invites people to slow down, soften the grip of the mind, and remember that presence is something we practice.

In my latest conversation, we explore meditation as a way of living, the relationship between awareness and attention, Eastern and Western traditions, and why joy remains possible—even in the presence of suffering.

I’m still sitting with some of the wisdom and words that he shared during our time together - including his response to the question “what is the meaning of life? - it’s to live, of course!”

When I sat down with editors @danielaagnelli & @tiffdarke to discuss writing about the theme of authenticity for their beautiful Ibiza magazine @xarracajournal , it first struck me what a creative challenge that could be !

In today’s world where the concepts of reality, truth, fakery and artificial have become normalised, authenticity feels like an edge. The thing is, authenticity really is a north star for life - it’s universally recognised yet if it’s over-identified, its power just slips away.

If authenticity sits at the centre of your life you are more likely to head in a good direction. It’s a working practice, especially on our island :)

Birthdays are good cycles to live by, they give a good sense of change.

This past year has been an enriching one with many twists and turns along the way. I remain grateful for it all in its full vibration. I guess I’ve chosen it that way.

I watched the brilliant film Good Vibrations with my friends the other day about hope in a hopeless Belfast where I grew up in the 70s and 80s. Highly recommended film btw - It reminded me of how far I’ve come in a quest to live life fully and freely. Not just good vibrations but full vibrations. All of it.

So as I look forward, I remain committed as ever to bring more peace and empowerment to the world in any form I can. I’m deeply humbled by the human story in all of its beauty, pain, tenderness and inspiration.
I continue as a student of the great mystery that keeps guiding me into the beautiful unknown.

One thing I know to be true is that We are much much more than we ever think we are. And this world is truly more beautiful that any screen or story will ever tell us or fail us.

So here’s to the dance of living fully. To the kindness in daily living. To all of it. To the fullness of this great life.

Through out my time working with the human experience, I’ve been a great believer in aesthetics and space as the foundation for why people open into greater levels of awareness.

It’s been enlightening to team up with my good friend Claus @slowness late last year and design and lead new learning experiences for global luminaries at the incomparable setting of the @reethausberlin Focusing on feeling our connection with slowness, illuminating mindful practices, the new world of neuroaesthetics, meditative movement and greater self enquiry. All wrapped in a sacred architecture built for deeper listening experience. Beauty at its most powerful.

Working with the finest talent including neuroscience outfit @kinda.studios facilitators such as @karimu_samuels and a night with the inimitable @walead and an immensely talented mindful production and gastronomy team. This was a stellar moment.

This experience takes us into something ancient and futuristic. And most importantly an elegance that we don’t often see in today’s world of wellbeing which is feels like it’s becoming so disposable.

A world where art, science, tech meet mind, body, soul. This has been my model of work from the day I ran my first meditation at the Tate Modern in 2003 immersed in art and presence. I went on to create immersive sound and art spaces and created our sound studio @opo.app So it just feels good to be at home here. Timeless.

On this day 2 years ago something special happened. I was invited to give a meditation for peace and 432kh sound bath for 5000 people in Parma, Italy (thank you @davines and @opo.app ) It was a peak moment and curiously for me a relaxing one amongst the grand production. It just reminded me how powerful and possible collective peace really is and actually how we yearn for it. It lies deep in our soul imprint. May we never forget
