Living in Victoria I feel so fortunate for the wealth of good trails in our backyard but PKOLS holds a special place in my heart. From the community built during the Fall Classics to the spring camas bloom. For such a small footprint it sure packs in no shortage of diversity. A true gem of a park with terrain to test all aspects of the trail runners toolkit.

Needless to say I was stoked at the opportunity to work with @kwonmedia_sports and @arieleve.x on the PKOLS trails while I put my new @arcteryx Sylan 2’s through the paces in this little proving ground.

I have spent a fair bit of time exploring the backroads with @darknorth and @blake.crouch over the years so was nice to sneak in a last minute bikepacking mission before shoulder surgery.

We started in Port Renfrew and headed up the Gordon with a solid climb over the now decommissioned Bugaboo Main then we made the taxing climb up and bushwhack into Sad Lake, the start of the Logan Creek drainage which is one of only two unlogged watersheds in the area. An enjoyable dip before we descended into the Walbran Valley for the evening. In the morning we hiked among some giant trees and took a dip in Marble Canyon before heading back via a new connector between the Mclure and Gordon, a hot tip from Dan at McClure Lake. taken in Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park by @clayawebb

A descent of this canyon had been on my list for awhile. Stoked to finally check it off earlier this week and what it delivered was way higher quality than anticipated.

A little Fall Classic update… for no shortage of trying for the better part of 8 months the Park’s permit for this year’s Partridge Fall Classic has yet to be approved. The date that was applied for is November 8th and as each day goes by with no permit it seems farther and farther out of reach. It’s currently not off the cards but I’m stuck in a bit of a holding pattern as I wait with fingers crossed.

I’ll keep folks updated as I know more and while I remain optimistic I’m starting to look at alternatives. A not so fall Fall Classic? A flip back to unsanctioned racing? Only time will tell. But for now I’m still hoping for the second Annual Partridge Fall Classic!

Had a great time dragging a bunch of pals through the woods a few weeks ago! Bummed I’m forced off the bike for a few more weeks until the hand heals up fully but stoked I should be back at it again before the days are short and cold 🤞🏼

$Comox Glacier Trail - 1 Clay - 0 While the Comox Glacier trail delivered no views and a fractured metacarpal it’s still another island classic checked off. This one has been on the list for a long time but has always been put off for other flashier objectives and/or the gate has been locked when I wanted to go for it. Thanks @abcarmichael for an enjoyable (aside from fracture) soggy day out in the island alpine. We waited a year to go on our honeymoon and it was certainly worth it! Couldn’t ask for a better way to celebrate than a hut to hut through the Julian Alps in Slovenia with @marymcneillknowles.
