POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Last Saturday I attended a brand story telling workshop conducted by a good friend.

One part of the workshop was all about crafting and creating your origin story.

Which made me realize,

Sa tagal ko na sa Fitness industry,

I have never really posted my origin story.

People just know me as Coach A, what I do, but never really know who I am and where I came from,

My fitness career is a product of my relentless pursuit of finding my place in this world.

I never really fit in anywhere,

Was too short for basketball,

Wasn’t really agile for football,

Had too much privilege to be a boxer

Not as strong as my peers in lifting.

That’s why I went into coaching, coz as they say, those who can’t do, teach.

But along the way,

I realized two things and hinawakan ko na to no matter where I went.

1.I can outwork and outlast everyone, Im not built for short term gratification, I am the kind of person who will not be as good at the start, but you will see me till the end. My brain is wired that way. I don’t stop. I just keep going no matter how many times I go down.

2.I can speak, write, communicate and inspire with the best of them. I can inspire anyone to be the best version of themselves.

And as much as I hate that fucking phrase of inspiring people,

The truth is that’s what I do.

I inspire anyone I meet through my tenacity, work ethic, honesty and raw power of words whether it is written or spoken.

That in a nutshell is who I am.

Just a kid who dreamed and is still dreaming of making a difference in a broken industry.

An industry that is anchored on smoke and mirrors.

An industry that thrives in showing instead of doing.

Thats why I am here.

To be the antithesis.

To be there for people who needs inspiration, guidance and from time to time, hard nosed coaching.

But all coming from the love of growth and self development.

So there,

I don’t really know if this sums as a origin story,

But this is the best I can think of sharing about myself and what I dream of doing here.

Till the next tidbits about me.

Once you become a coach, the first thing you learn is that from here on moving forward,

It’s not about you anymore.

It’s about the people you serve, the clients you take care of,

It’s about them. They are the stars.

Not to say you put yourself in the background with your own life,

But the work you do is not to be recognized or be seen.

It’s about them. It’s how they show up for themselves and reach big audacious goals in their lives.

Thats why coaching is a calling,
It’s not for everyone.

It’s not about the weights you lift or the competitions you do.

Your competency is based on how you help the people you serve bridge the gaps in their lives to create the better versions of themselves.

This is what I shared to future coaches of @riseup.fitness.studio last weekend.

Took me a long time to get back here.

Years of re-writing the narrative of my life to get where I am.

A man and a coach who’s a good person too.

I’m scared shitless with my plans how to grow rise up.

But one things for sure,

However I do it, I’ll make sure it’s done the right way.

I’m not supposed to be here.

Was never best in class.

Wasn’t the strongest, tallest nor even the smartest.

But I am relentless in doing things right.

I saw a clear gap in the Philippines.

Commercial gyms offer discounted memberships in hopes you don’t show up.

Group classes are limited to space, equipment and filled-up time slots.

There are more personal training complaints than progress.

Coaches are turned into salesmen.

That’s why I built this.

A place and a space where coaching is the centerpiece.

When you’re here, we promise to give you the best hour of your day.

The aim is not perfection,

But growth and learning endlessly along the way.

To all @riseup.fitness.studio clients past and present,

Thank you.

We just renewed our lease.

Another year to grow.

Self belief is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

Not that watch or car.

Not your cash in your bank account.

It’s you believing in yourself no matter what.

No meditation, manifestation, magic can make things happen for you if you are not delusional in your self belief,

You will always stay in the sidelines.

Then look at other people doing it.

Stop watching.

Participate.

Fail.

Learn to fail gloriously.

Be delusional.

Hindi madali magbago.

Lalong hindi madali makita ang mali sa sarili at tanggapin na kailngan baguhin.

Sabi nga ni Jim Rohn,

“Life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change”

And before anything changes, admitting we are wrong is the first step.

Ikaw mali. Ako hindi.

Which is what this nation actually needs to break.

We chose wrong,

We trusted the wrong people.

Our morals are out of whack.

We have friends who are actually corrupt.

That’s where change really lies.

Not in pointing how others need to change.

But admitting,

Fuck. I need to change too.

Like this post,

Id like to think im the last person to speak about these things.

But I need to say what I mean.

So that needs for me to change my mindset from,

Im just a coach,

To I’m a coach.

My voice matters.

I can influence change.

I change people’s lives.

That’s authentic and I should embrace that.

I let out a good cry today.

Been really extra tired and just felt like letting the fatigue get to me.

I think that’s progress.

I used to keep it all bottled inside.

It left me isolated, lonely, misunderstood.

I even used to think the world was out to get me.

As a man,

it’s easy to call the world unfair.

It’s also easy to point fingers.

It’s always someone else’s fault.

Then we go to our own little world and say why we’re miserable because the world hates us.

At least I do.

Then I regurgitate the idea that I’m alone.

When I’m not.

Just didn’t know how to express it better.

Or let out a good cry every now and then.

So today,

Im going to be gentle with myself.

Let myself feel the fatigue and accept,

Im no Superman.

But I’m a man.

Someone’s who’s growing and transitioning.

A man who’s not alone.

Whose love is capable of loving others more.

Just look at these people I care for and love.

People I know who love me back.

But today,

I’ll love myself first.

The biggest enemy of the fitness Industry is not

Big Pharma, doctors, or governments and their policies.

Nor is it obesity and metabolic diseases.

Its biggest enemy is itself.

It’s misplaced identity and the metrics it measures itself against.

In an industry that thrives on vanity and altered imagery.

The fitness industry through the years have lost its soul.

As a coach and a studio owner.

Im taking a stand.

For health, for strength, for longevity and life structure.

Yes, fat loss and weight loss has a place in a person’s fitness journey.

But endless pursuit of a goal weight should never be the goal.

Eating once a day should never be the norm.

Water fasting does not solve your hunger issues.

And having water weight is never a problem.

Eat protein, eat veggies, eat carbs.

Stop aiming to be small.

Focus on abundance, self love.

Empower life through fitness.

Making life work through strength, power, energy.

The goal is simple.

Lift, run, climb, read, meet people, create impact
And be useful outside of the gym.

Look good naked, have good sex and be an absolute unit.

This page exists everything in my life..

I decided to document it, not to check on my progress,

But to simply celebrate life.

They say, Being a man is not easy these days.

I used agree with the same sentiment.

That society has been directing a lot of hate towards men and we are experiencing mental struggles because of society hating us.

I used to believe it.

Until I realized no one is out to get me.

I was just too much into my own ego I forgot to look at my shortcomings why things are the way they were in my life.

Only me is out to get me.

After stopping the self flagellation, the energy sucking ways of how I viewed myself,

I started thriving and I have never stopped ever since.

Do I have bad days?

Yes, plenty, but the great days outweighs the bad.

And no matter what shit or emotional turmoil I am in,

I make it the best day ever so far.

Not out of toxic positivity,

But coming from a place of grace, joy, gratitude and love.

This year has been nothing but a blessing.

I grew my studio,

I coached new coaches and paying them what they deserve,

I overcame a health scare (ill talk about this more)

Met new friends.

Rekindled my professional coaching career.

And ultimately,

I grew from inside out.

While feeling every moment of this growth.

And it all began when I started to accept,

No one is out to get me. There’s no one out to get men.

We are our own enemy.
